Do you know anyone in real life that has a catchphrase?
I was watching a commercial for that stupid looking Robert Evans cartoon "Kid Notorious", and on all the commercials for it, he spits out his stupid "You bet your ass it is" catchphrase, and it got me to thinking of a customer I wait on at work that always tells me "Don't take any wooden nickels.", when I realized that a lot of people I know have their own catchphrased. My brother likes to use the word "friendly" when it doesn't apply, and another regular customer says "What's doin?"

All of these, are of course, incredibly annoying.

1. how ya doo-in?
and if someone askes me how I am, I say "peachie." Touble is, around here, people pick up your catch phrases and start using them, so you have to come up with new ones.

2. I'm fat and happy
If someone asks me how I'm doing. It doesn't seem to be catching on though.

4. What's up?
That's what all the kids around my dorm use. I really don't know what to say besides, "Not much." Or I'll reflexively respond, "How ya doin'?", not really expecting any answer.

5. I have a friend who likes to say, "Orlaaaaaaaa?"

Meaning, "oh really?".

I also have an uncle who says, "yeah buddy!", but it's like... all one word. It's:

"YeahBUUUUDddy!"

He uses it for anything. It's doesn't just mean "yes" for him. It's also an exclamation, or an expression of enjoyment.

Uncle Frank watches a car burst into flame on television and shouts, "YeahBUUUUDddy!"

Uncle Frank is handed an ice cream cone, takes a lick, and says, "yeahBUUUUUUUUDddy...."

The second I saw a commercial for it, I decided I am NOT watching it. It looks stupid.

9. I used to have one.
Back in ... 1983 I guess it was. I used to go around saying "Stuff Happens".

Had I been in the habit of saying "shit" all the time, and if I'd had ambitions of starting a bumper sticker business, I coulda been years ahead of the other guys. Oh well. Someone else made a bundle printing "Shit Happens" bumper stickers a couple years later in 1987...

10. I just remembered one. But I only use it on one person.
A few years ago I worked in an office complex. There was a guy I'd always pass in the halls, but I didn't know him. We'd started saying hello to each other out of politeness.

Anyway, one evening I tried to say my usual, "how's it goin'?" and he was set to reply with the standard, "how you doin'?, but the lines got screwed up and I said:

"Where's it goin'?"

and he immediately replied:

"How's it doin'?"

We both stopped, looked stupid for a minute, and then laughed our asses off. Anyway, now that guy is a friend of mine, and I we always greet each other with, "Where's it goin'?"/"How's it doin'?"

Whenever he was leaving somewhere sad: "Its been real, its been nice, but it ain't been real nice".

After a few of these, I wanted to hit him.

It's been real, and it's been fun, but it hasn't been really funny.

13. I don't mean to sound corny or anything, but I always tell my kids
"I love you, sweetheart." when we part, and with a hug and kiss.

I also often say if they do a doubtful thing, "There is no honor in that, if I'm really irritated; or alternatively, where is the honor in that?"

Maybe I'm in the wrong century, but it really works. They need to hear the "I love you" ,and they do respond the honor thing. Honestly.

:D
