Anyone been to Reykjavik?
I'm tagging along with my bf to conference in London. I'm intrigued by the Icelandair deal where you can stop over in Reykjavik for no additional charge. Anyone been? Is it worth a few day stopover.

The Iceland International Film Festival will be going on during that time. The website doesn't have much info, but I love independent and foreign films.

2. Stop over in Reykjavik for a few days....
You can take some interesting side trips into the interior of the country and see some geological wonders. It's a wild but beautiful place, and the people are very warm and welcoming.

4. Just the airport...
... Icelandair previously didn't let you leave the airport without incurring serious extra charges (this was back in 1997 when I went BWI-Glasgow and BWI-Heathrow). I wish I had had a chance to stay over, it looked interesting.

5. Yaaaaah Reykjavik!
I've been there a dozen times or so, when I travel to Europe I try and rig up a stop. It is a great city. Terrific music scene, Art, cool Buildings. The best bookstores I've ever seen (including english language books). Nice B&B's. My favorite coffee shop on the planet "Moka", and original from the 50's (scando modern). A stop there is recommended. (There's a DU'r who posts here who lives in Reykjavik).

A small metropolitan area, very beautiful, lots to do, the fish restaurants were the best I've ever had.

No fossil fuel use - all the buildings are heated with geothermal

Try some of the natural hot baths there.

7. Yes, it was the best 9 hour layover I ever had in my life!
They have icebergs, fjords, lava all over the ground and the most wonderful thermal pool, the "Blue Lagoon." It's an outdoor spa created from runoff from a geothermal power plant. Deliciously warm and therapeutic.

Once when I was on my way to visit my bf in Sweden I arranged to have a long layover. I jumped on a comfy coach bus, and toured around for six hours. It was great!

9. friend of a friend went
It was on business so he had no expenses. He had a blast. I'm told if you are not on an expense account it can be pricey. The recommend I heard was to hide those airline vodka bottles in your pocket and use them to "refresh" the $10 screwdriver you get at the Icelandic bars. I also heard the Icelandic ladies are free-thinkers in the matter of sport, er, effing, so if you're into that, if you're not a hopeless drunk and can still stand tall at the end of the night, the ladies will love you. That's what I was told, I'm a lady myself so not inclined to go there and test this.

If this is bad advice, don't shoot me, I'm strictly passing on gossip I heard. Also I'm thinking the advice is about 6 or 8 years old, maybe the wild drinking and effing has gotten under control by now. (But of course we hope otherwise.)

I think he's worried about cost. Looks to be rather expensive.

14. A bit expensive, yes.
Thanks to he who shall not be named, the dollar is swooning, but it's not too hard to just hang in Reykjavic. Just think that the Iceland Kroner is worth like a penny. If you go close to mid summer it is really a trip- daylight all the time. People painting the fence at midnight, and the streets are full of people at 2am on weekends.

17. Please stopover there and meet as many Icelanders as you can...
And tell them as a true American how humiliated and embarrassed you are that this imbecile is the leader of your country...I'm referring to the one on the right...
