what do you watch on ebay?

what do you watch? i am (and have been since i first registered) a fanatical watcher of Books > Antiquarian & Collectible. i don't bid (i don't have that kind of $ !) but i love books, and love to watch the auctions.

so! whether ebay buyer or seller (or peruser) what type of auction do you most like to watch?

and accessories buy parts and build Macs. I am addicted.

We own two vinyl records from the late 70's that consistantly sell on that site for $30 each.

We will never sell ours...but, it's kinda cool to watch the bids go up and see the 'highest' bid and KNOW we have the very same items.


The Tikkis

I am constantly checking the music auctions, looking for rare releases (or even boots) by the obscure bands I listen to. There's one in particular that has pretty much become my holy grail since I've been looking for a copy of it for nearly three years (and yes, I know about Gemm).
As for books, well, you probably won't find any radically underpriced treasure on Ebay; it's fun to browse, anyway. But here's a story for you: someone I know once bought a book for something like 2 bucks at a library sale in Orlando. It turned out to be one of two volumes missing from a set of five that was in the possession of some special library in New York. This particular work was actually owned by Herman Melville, and used by him while researching Moby Dick. It contained extensive marginalia in Melville's own hand, and had the date he bought it and his signature in the front. He sold it to the library for $52,000! He immediately flew back down to Orlando and hunted high and low in the hope that he'd come across the final missing volume, but with no luck. So that last volume is still out there! Keep checking out those library sales and garage sales!

Vintage Pucci dresses and shoes

I'm trying to get one in each letter of the alphabet. I'm at 16 of 26 (just got my "L" from Lumberton, MS this week).

Most I've paid for one ("T," from Trinity HS, in/near Cleveland, OH) is $44. Typical is $15-$20 (not incl shipping).

You can get stuff cheap on eBay, what you have to do is look for people who don't know what it is.

If I were looking for antique books, I would do the title only search for newly listed, and type "old book" in the search box.

then if I found one I liked, I would check the seller's feedback, and shipping costs, and then ask them if I can buy it now.

Most will let you, and probably about 60% will let you buy it now at or near their starting bid price, just to get the thing sold.

Balloon twisting videos, juggling equipment - you know... the normal stuff. Also check to see if there's anything good being sold concerning Penn and Teller.

Right now, I've completed about 60% of my Christmas shopping with Ebay. I've done this every year for the last 4 or 5 years because so many of my friends have specific interests that it's so easy to find the stuff on Ebay - and pretty cheaply most of the time, and I don't have to go out to the malls but once or twice.

So far I've won auctions for...
A bust of the Great Gonzo from the Muppets
A wood sign with a ferret eating a cherry pie on it
A "rare" Dr Pepper paperweight
Some Philly Eagles stuff
A wicker basket in shape of an apple and an apple wood sign (for a teacher friend)
A wooden perpetual lighthouse calendar (with the little tiles for the days, etc.)
Star Trek edition UNO.

All of this puts me in a Holly Jolly mood for Christmas as I sit back and enjoy making and eating Xmas cookies while all the suckers are out stressing over buying gifts after Thanksgiving.

If you're a sucker, I mean that in the nicest possible way of course. :)
