Best B-sides?
You young'uns can sit this one out. You should be in bed, anyway.

Adam and the Ants: Beat My Guest (B-side of Stand and Deliver)
11:59 by Blondie (B-Side of Heart of Glass)

Uh, that's all I can think of right now.

2. "Rain" by the Beatles - And I'm 19 (!)
My favorite song.

Oh - AND I'm 19 :)

Actually, a number of 90s had great b-sides on their CD-singles. Oasis for one (hate to bring up Oasis again in the DU Lounge) - their b-sides were often purposely better than their album material. In fact, their b-sides from their Morning Glory singles were better than the album as a whole.

The Smashing Pumpkins also had a lot of good b-sides. They had that boxset The Aeroplane Flies High. Of course, their b-sides don't really count as b-sides b/c they came on 7-track EP's. At 7 tracks you're approaching album territory.

Also, another British band, Suede, had great b-sides. Really good ones.

Actually, a lot of UK-based bands have tons of good b-sides b/c singles are still a pretty popular format there.

Actually, I don't know of that many b-sides to classic rock. I'm a big Beatles fan and I have stuff by a bunch of other classic rock groups - The Kinks, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Clash, David Bowie, The Byrds, along with all the major albums by Led Zeppelin. However, the only classic rock group for which I have the entire output is The Beatles - and their b-sides rocked!

I also like reading random stuff, including music history regarding groups I like.

I'm mostly into '90s rock, especially '90s britrock - the so-called "Britpop" stuff. That's why I mentioned the Smashing Pumpkins and also why I brought up Oasis and Suede b/c both have lots of good b-sides, as do a lot of UK bands even now. My copy of the Franz Ferdinand album has a 5-track bonus disc with 5 b-sides. None are mind-blowing or anything, but they're pretty good.

16. Well, I'm 23 and it appears I'm the resident Beatles geek.

Being 19 and liking the Beatles isn't terribly odd. I know quite a few people in our age group who love the Beatles. They've crossed generations quite well.

In fact, I'll go so far as to say that 60s music is generally miles ahead of what has been produced since.

19. For the most part yes
Personally I do listen to more '90s stuff than '60s stuff, but I'll readily admit that the '60s were more original and influential - more musically redeeming. '60s music is great and probably won't be equaled for awhile.

The Beatles have really crossed the generation-mark. Better than a lot of classic acts. Although a lot of people I know also like The Rolling Stones and The Who and other '60s/'70s rock acts.

Really, I think the dividing line is the '60s. You could debate the merits of it, but I see very few Elvis fans in our generation. I'm certainly not, but I do think that Elvis hasn't really passed the generations as well - I could be wrong though. And I hope I am. I'm not really into Elvis but I do respect his work and I wish I saw more people our age liking him and appreciating him.

15. Yes! Yellow Ledbetter...
...is one of the greatest songs ever, IMO. Who even needs to really understand exactly what Eddie's saying, either? The music, the singing...the whole thing is just so powerful.

Okay, I'll stop gushing now. :-)

29. Not understanding the lyrics part of the beauty of the song.
There are no true lyrics to it. Like a guitar solo, it is never exactly the same. Eddie's voice is just another instrument in that song.

I'm getting chills thinking of Mike McCready, head tilted all the way back, eyes closed, just cranking out another great solo. I am in dire need of a PJ tour soon.

"Eddie's voice is just another instrument in that song."

That's so true. It's just such an amazing song...beautiful, haunting, yet somehow uplifting at the same time.

I'll never forget the first time I heard it. It was the day I found out Kurt Cobain had killed himself. I heard the song in the morning when I was getting ready for school, and it just floored me. I felt this overwhelming flood of emotion. And then, later on that day, after I got home from school, I heard on the radio that Kurt had died. What a day...

11. "Try It" by The Hollies & "Tapioca Tundra" by the Monkees.
Edited on Fri Apr-01-05 01:26 AM by Dr Fate
B-Side to "Jennifer Eccles" & "Valleri", respectivley...

What makes it "Try It" so cool is that it is a rougher, alternate version from the LP track...I like "Tapioca" cuz it rips off "Feel a Whole Lot Better" by the Byrds, but in a good way...

Yeah- those & "Candy & a Currant Bun" by The Pink Floyd (w/ Barret).

Don't get me started...

I got it so bad for little miss Lois Lane

Lois Lane please put me in your plan
Yeah, Lois Lane you don't need no Super Man
Come on downtown and stay with me tonight
I got a pocket full of kryptonite

He's Leaping buildings in a single bound
I'm reading Shakespeare at my place downtown
Come on downtown and make love to me
I'm Jimmy Olsen not a titan, you see
He's faster than a bullet, stronger than a train
He's the one who got lucky got his cape around miss Lois Lane
