WAKE UP!!


BOHOL ISLAND, Philippines -- A Philippine Tarsier watches as a photographer takes his picture inside a captive breeding center in Loboc town on Bohol Island. The endangered animal, who feeds on tiny insects is believed to be the world's smallest primate. (03/11/05 AP photo)

Actually I don't think the text is correct: there's an even smaller critter called the tree shrew which is now classified as a primate (which is to say, mankind's relatives in the evolutionary tree).

But, funny looking as this guy is, lemurs and tarsiers are way cool. Too bad they're all in really fragile habitats. Well over half the lemurs in the world live in Madagascar, where the forests are being clear-cut for farmland :-(

Actually what really sucks is, all of the primates are endangered or threatened-- not necessarily excepting homo sapiens.
