Slightly off topic
My mother loves her animals.
They all go to the vet regularly and her boxer takes medication.
She (the dog) takes Lasix for congestive heart failure and when she gets nervous, she takes valium.
I would venture to say that mom spends in the neighborhood of $500-600 a month on her pets.
While living in Texas, when her pets died (they all live realllllly long lives, one cat was almost 27 years old), she simply buried them in a little pet cemetary that she had.
Now that she lives in a state that frowns upon such practices, she has taken to having them cremated.
What do you do with cremains of pets? Any ideas?

3. Scatter the ashes at various favorite fire hydrants (dogs, anyway)?
Cats--I don't know, I don't understand cats.

6. I had my Rottweiler cremated and I still have her ashes.
The crematorium put them into a pretty flowered tin box.

7. I still have my birdie's cremains
They are in a sweet little heart-shaped box on a shelf with mementos. I plan to scatter the ashes someday in the Gulf of Mexico where I want my ashes to be scattered someday. He died 4 years ago but I haven't done it yet.

I personally think it's better to cremate animals because you never know what could happen to them buried. I guess what to do with the cremains is like any person's cremains. You keep em for a while and then you let them go.

You're mom sounds like a great person. Anyone who loves their animals that much and truly honors the commitment to them like she does has a very sweet soul.

9. lol, my cats have trained me well too
and even though I still live in Texas, I will probably cremate them when they pass.
It seems so much more humane to me than burying them where they can be dug up.
Besides, I have 3 20 lb cats, thats a BIG hole,lol.

10. Texas?
My Swiss-AmeriCat told me he wants to visit Six Flags before he spends the last of his nine lives! (Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, he has no passport.)

11. I thought Lasix was lazer eye surgery?!?!
Maybe it's Plavix you're thinking of (an anti-bloodclot med) that the dog is on. There is such a thing as pet health insurance, and it may be worthwhile for her to look into it if she's blowing that much on meds and vet bills.

She should be able to keep the remains after cremation just like you would with people whom are cremated. The ashes can be saved in various containers or can be buried or scattered in any manner she sees fit. There's no chance for spreading any illness or disease from scattering cremated ash.

12. Lasix is a diuretic--takes fluid off
also known by generic name furosemide.
Plavix is an anticoagulant.
Laser eye surgery is LASIK.
Thanks though.
:)
