I've made a crucial career decision.
I realized I was on a dead end road. If I am to succeed in the IT business world, I can't do it by taking a hard-left, anti-business ideological position. Bosses don't like Che-like zealots. And they damn well souldn't.

What does "I know a lot of Linux" say to a prospective employer when he reads in on a CV? It says, "I hate private enterprise, and particularly American enterprise. I favor forced distribution of Intellectual Property. I probably hate you and will only not harm you for as long as I'm satisfied with the fat salary. Then it's whistleblower time." It's like writing "Explosive Consultant to the Unabomber, 1993-1995".

Make no mistake, HR departments all around the world are well aware of that. The era of computer lawlessness is coming to an end. Every piece of hardware will be virtually open-source-proof, and the laws will back it up. Even manifestations of dislike towards proper Intellectual Property enforcement will be tantamount to professional suicide.

I have to feed my family. That's why I'm enrolling in a .NET course today.

1. .NET is going to revolutionize the way we do business on the web!

Er, did I say 'revolutionize'? I meant 'facilitate incremental improvements in an orderly, predictable way'.

;)

5. I dunno CP
a lot of the IT people we know are big Linux fans and open source stuff seems to be very popular with people outside the field as well. Many people in and out of the profession hate Windows ( think it is crap from various standpoints) and all it represents.

For some reason I am thinking of the "Shock Wave Rider" here...
