Anyone who says they like The Mars Volta is a lying sack of shit
Those mouth-breathing neo-prog rock wannabees sure churn out the shit. They could use guitar lessons from the greatest living master - Jack White.

I think that some teenagers think it is cool because they have a planet in their name and have no idea what the word volta means. I suspect that volta is somehow related to dungeons and dragons. Geek factor off the scale.

1. And I suppose Oasis is the best band ever? (edited)

:eyes:

On edit: I'm not a huge fan of The Mars Volta either, but that doesn't mean I'm going to insult them. I know some people who really do like them.

6. Oasis is clearly one of the best
People who claim that they do not like Oasis are not musically gifted. Their first album could be considered the best of all time.

Now, If Jack White were to ditch Meg and join Oasis, Oasis would be the best band ever beyond a doubt.

3. I agree... Dream Theater was 10x the progressive metal jazz act
And before them, Chick Corea and Al Dimiola in the Romantic Warrior years blew doors down.

7. Change that "was" to an "is" and I'm in full agreement
Dream Theater is still quite alive and well.

4. God, I hope that Jack White comment was sarcastic...
I really hope so.

8. Absolutely not
Jack White plays lead, rhythm, and bass at the same time on a single guitar. Certainly the best alive right now. I will admit that Hendrix may have been better, but I never saw him with my own two eyes.

9. Oh wow. I've heard teenagers noodling at guitar stores...
that play better than Jack White. I don't even dislike his style and I don't even care if someone is a virtuouso or not. I like sloppy punk and bloozy boozy indie rock. I even like the White Stripes o.k. But their talent lies solely in their marketing and can do attitude and not even close to their musical skills.

John Spencer was doing the exact same shtick better 10 years ago. Including the lead/rythm/bass guitar combination.

But hey, to each their own.

5. I checked out their first album cause I heard it was good new prog rock
Edited on Fri Apr-01-05 12:21 PM by Tyrone Slothrop
And I'm a fan of some older 70s prog rock stuff.

It was truly, truly awful.

On edit: And I also liked their old band, At the Drive-In
