This may just be a coincidence but
ever since Rush's dealers main customer went to rehab, we have been getting 10 to 15 offers a day to buy quite an assortment of pills. I know this is very common but I have gotten differing advise as to how to deal with it.

One theory is to delete before opening, and the other is to open and unsuscribe, so to speak.

Of course my question is about all unwanted email. Just trying inject a little humor. What do you all suggest ? I guess it all started when my husband fell for the ploy that told him he had won something. Guess they shouldn't let us old foggies have these toys.

Thanks for any suggestions.

1. Never click ANY link...
not even to unsubscribe. Delete it from you mailbox without opening. When you "unsubscribe" you are doing just the opposite. You are validating your email address for the sender, who will then bombard you with spam.

Just do the three Ds: Delete Delete Delete.

And you may want to go to your mailbox tools and create a rule that says when mail is received that contains the words prescription, penis, mortgage, etc., do not download it, delete it from the server.

It won't completely solve the problem, but it will help a lot.

2. If you've access to your mail server...
...You can produce a fake delivery error, and send it back to them: You need to be careful about what mail headers you change, add and delete, though, and how you drop it into the server. Maybe one of the DU techies with a bit of spare brain power could cook up a sample?

Won't always work, but reduces it a bit. Failing that, just delete it - the "unsubscribe" option just lets them know you read your spam...
:argh:

3. over the last 2-3 weeks
i've been receiving the ONLY spam mail in my email that i've ever had. Every one has been about pills from the internet, a few for um, 'enlargement' issues...

my isp has an option to block/filter the sender, and i do, but have to open the email to apply it.
without fail, they keep coming from a different address (all basically the same message, with lines of gibberish text following the ads)

but i would advise NOT replying to unsubscribe, you are only validating your email address, and you don't have to unsub from something you've never subbed to, it's just a ploy to harvest your address as valid.

good luck tho

and the one I opened also had the gibberish you mentioned.

THanks.

4. I DO open and "unsubscribe"
And my spam has been majorly reduced. Seems like they do respect my requests to be taken off their lists. I have heard about responding to spam will confirm your address to them, but it's just not happening.

6. I also talked to someone for whom the unsubscribe has worked.
Thanks.
