My Partner Is Off To Hawaii And I'm Staying Home...
... it's a business trip (the lucky jammy bastard) and it would have been a budget-buster to accompany him this time. Oh well.

I always worry though. Someone please remind me that the drive to and from Dulles Airport was more dangerous than his round trip flight. I just HATE it when he travels.

6. I Noticed That Bald Head-Rubbing Too...
I thought it was sweet. And funny, since I'm buzzed nearly bald this week... very appropriate.

Love, Allen

I'm sure he'll be OK, Allen. And that's so sweet about the love notes. He's very lucky to have you.

Anyway, you could always come hang out with us. We're going out to dinner Friday night (about seven or eight of us so far) and then we'll be trying to outdo last year's merriment at the DC Party Hotel after the rally/march Saturday. PM me if you're interested.

4. I'd like to have a job like that.
It reminds me of my uncle's job. He travels all around the world for his company teaching people how to use software. He has a ton of free time at the house. He may be home for two weeks or more between btween business trips.

10. On The Plus-Side. He Gets To KEEP The Frequent Flyer Miles...
... to himself. Over time he's become an AA "platinum-diamond-encrusted-gold-sequens-silver-lame" frequent flyer (or some such nonsense) so there are a lot of perks and free trips that we can take advantage of with all his miles.

So it's not all bad.

Labor Day! :)

You are absolutely right that the drive to Dulles was riskier than flying to Hawai'i, so consider yourself reminded. Hope he took a camera!

18. Digital Camera Packed!!! (Along with hidden "I-Love-You" Notes...)
We already have a TON of pictures from our other two Hawaii trips. It's not like we haven't alread seen nearly everything there is to see there. --- But more photos will be fun.

And yes... I hide "come-home-safe" and "I-love-you" notes in his luggage. Sometimes it's folded in with his socks, or tucked into the pants pockets, or hidden in the pages of his in-flight reading on a post-it. I will always try to figure out ways to make the notes LAST all week long (instead of being discovered on the first day's unpacking.)

Go ahead and giggle. I know... it's corny.

24. Not possible.
It is not possible to "see nearly everything there is to see in Hawaii" in just 2 trips. I've been there 3 times and feel like I've just scratched the surface. Hawaii ... man, what a place!

my oldest sister used to live in Burke

anyway, a friend of mine is now living in Alexandria and with her on the road, I would much rather be flying!

21. At The Very Least, He Needs To Return With Some 100% KONA Coffee Beans...
... not the "Kona-Blends" where they try to trick you with a mixture of Kona and Columbian coffee... or Kona and Puerto-Rican coffee... but the GENUINE STUFF.

Last time I checked it was over $25 a pound here in the DC area. Too rich for my blood. I hope it's cheaper at the source!! :-)

27. Which Reminds Me...
Narrator: "Allen's words trailed off into silence. His eyes gazed upward as though he were mentally transporting himself to another place and time. A smile came to his face. There was a hint of a blush in his cheeks before he closed his eyes, let out a deep sigh, and returned to reality... still smiling."

19. We Only Fly American or BA. So That Wasn't He...
... who left something on Southwest.

We have learned a couple of lessons in all our miles. NEVER EVER check your luggage. Pack light. Carry on ONLY. If you need anything extra, you can BUY IT THERE! (Checking luggage on the return trip is okay since you'll have more clothes at HOME in case your luggage gets lost or damaged.)

23. Oh yes, the drive ANYWHERE, but ESPECIALLY to Dulles...
is more dangerous than the plane ride. Take a moment and think about how lucky you are to have each other, and send love and good vibes out into the universe, and he'll be protected. And update us when he's home safely. :)

29. Thanks for the kind words, you two. That means a lot to me.
-- By the way, he just telephoned me from LAX. All went well. The flight was uneventful. The steak was delicious. Mimosas flowed freely. (He's feeling no pain.)

Only a 2 hour delay and 6? more hours in the air and I can stop worrying until next week.
