Do they bury the Pope in that funny hat?
Is the ribbon seal on the door because:
1. the Pope's death chamber is almost always a crime scene
2. the church is filled with criminals, rieves, conspirators and jackals who understand the wealth and political power that are on the line and jesus be damned
3. both of the above.

I'm nowt Catholic so I don't know these things.

1. not really
The Pope died surrounded by his small staff of fellow Poles who were by his side for decades, plus a few Italian doctors. It was not a crime scene.

Everyone in senior Catholic Church hierarchy already has wealth and power. One doesn't have be Pope to get that. In D.C., the residence of the Cardinal here looks larger than the White House.

3. Yes and 2
He will be buried in full vestments.

Not so much the Church is filled with criminals, but rather that the world is. In former years it was very much easier to get inside palaces (not just the Pope's ones), and so after instances of theft it was decided to seal the appartments.

4. People would steal the Papal Seal
and send out encyclicals, letters, etc., under the Papal Seal. These weren't people off of the street, mind you, but people within the Vatican. So, now they destroy the Seal ASAP and seal the apartments to stop stuff like this from happening. Thus, nothing can be "processed" until there is a new Pope and thus a new Papal Seal. In times past, that could take months and even years.

5. That's why we got the conclave
The Cardinals took too long to elect a new Pope, and so a Prince locked them in a large hall, took the roof off, and only gave them bread and water.
