Of course if I wanted to leave, I'd just leave--no farewell speech.

13. No kidding
Just go...

reminds me of party guests I had once...took 10 minutes to "bye" them out of the door...they were so afraid that the people remaining were going to talk about them in a negative light once they were gone...

..and they did...about how long it took them to get out of the door.

You got to laugh!

15. That's IT! I'm leaving DU!
Leaving
by Melvin Lee

On a day like today,
a young lady arrived
at the airport,
with family
and friends.

Her heart was heavy,
and she was sad.
For she knew the time
has come to leave
this Heaven and
return to the
far lonely
world
elsewhere.

Unsettling feeling
in her heart,
a kind of longing
to stay back forever.
A kind of familiar loneliness
that she was acquainted with,
comes to her again.

And she sighed,
wistfully, forlornly,
hoping again hope,
to stay in this limbo
of joy and
belonging
forever.

'Oh no, I'm leaving again',
she murmured,
hot tears threatening
to well in her eyes.

Bravely, she forced
a smile at her
loved ones.
Without much of
a second look,
she bid them
farewell.

In the plane,
the girl sat,
with eyes closed,
reliving those
wonderful
and fond
memories
she left behind,

and those sweet voices
and carefree laughter
that accompanied
every single image
that went fleeting pass.

Unconsciously,
a faint smile ghosted at her mouth.

'I'll see them again soon.
Take care, my loved ones,
I'll be back.'

Was that long enough for you?

23. I don't understand this. I have found DU to be the most sympathetic
Place on earth! You all gave me advice in pilling my tiny dog! Great people. But I have seen these posts. I just don't get it unless they expect instant remedies. We can't provide this. It takes work to re-take control of Congress and we worked like mad to win this election, but it was stolen, yet again. I can understand people's frustration, but that's no reason to leave DU. This is the place to get inspired and find ideas of what we all can do. But I admit to being very frustrated, myself, but I cannot give up.

42. I know. And I have kicked it. But he is just, finally, out of the woods.
I was so scared, since I have lost other pets, and couldn't bare to lose my little dog. My vets were great, and he's finally started eating, but I couldn't have made it without the help and support I received on DU. You all have been the best. Thank you. My dog is eating, but it was touch and go. I think DU made the difference, even more than my vet, with so many suggestions. I'm sorry, but I was so scared for my little dog. Sorry if you were offended.;(

45. Thank you so much. It has not been easy, and I've learned much about
This very little dog. My breed is cockers, so he is new to me, but I love him dearly. But he is truly difficult, which I know now, and received a call from the pet pharmacy on Thursday. This lady was very nice, and explained what they were about. I told her that we were managing now, but would probably need her help, in the future. Who could have imagined what you'd have to confront with an eight-pound dog, but he's as tough as they come, LOL! Thanks! It's been HELL, but he's finally better.:-)

47. Remember a couple years back,
GM was to discontinue Oldsmobile. People then flocked to buy the ugly things. The next sales year, all of the Olds commercials were gushing about how popular their cars were.

As has been said, it's usually about attention whoring.

48. About skipping the long good-bye posts and just going...
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 08:15 AM by Crankie Avalon
Maybe they want people to jump in and say, "Oh, no! You mustn't go! How could we have been so foolish as to have annoyed you so! Please, forgive us our trespasses and stay, The Great and Wonderful You!"

Years ago at work there was this little Napoleon-complex guy who thought the world of himself and looked down on all the rest of us. Sometimes, he would get on the phone and talk to his sister or his one friend from outside work for 20 or 30 minutes at a time about how he was basically too good for us, and he would do it loud enough for the rest of us to hear it. He was a real impossible guy who couldn't get along in groups, or even one-on-one.

Most of all, he was having troubles with the boss, and he was trying to transfer into one of the other departments, but his bad attitude was well-known around the organization so no one wanted him in spite of his qualifications. They were choosing less qualified people over him, they didn't want him so much. He finally started hitting everyone who turned him down with formal unfair labor practice complaints, so he eventually got the transfer he wanted, at last.

In our office, we have a tradition of renting out space in a restaurant for a "congratulations/good-bye" type luncheon if someone moves on. One of us brought this up with him out of politeness, and this guy made a big show about how he didn't want us to do that. He said this once, and we didn't ask again--we (gladly) took him at his word. In fact, from time to time he would repeat he didn't want anything done, even though no one was asking, anymore.

Unfortunately, the whole time he was around I sat closest to the guy, and his last day I got to hear another of his famous "stage-whispered" phone calls. He was complaining to somebody about how we didn't do anything to see him off!

I guess he was expecting us to do the party, anyway, to show that we dug him so much that we would make a shindig for him even though he, "humble to the end," asked us not to! Sorry, Stubbie! :D

Anyway, your bringing up some of these long "let me give you a last piece of my mind" good-bye posts reminded me of the guy.

49. Yep, I think that people want to be begged in to staying on DU
To be the best of my knowledge, it doesn't happen but I don't read the "Goodbye cruel DU, I'm leaving" posts. They really annoy me.

I also think some people enjoy rejecting others for a ego boost or something. Like they're better than the people who they reject.

51. I can't imagine why anyone would choose to leave DU.
It's the best place I have ever found and always have been grateful I found it. The people here are the best, always willing to help with anything, and there's a lot of humor. And I happen to agree with the politics, a real relief for me, living in a red district. Maybe these people are looking for attention. Nothing wrong with that. Just say "don't go," and see if they stay.
