Comic books
Why is it that some parents don't allow their children to read comic books? I think they challenge a child's imagination and encourage him/her to expand his/her vocabulary. And they READ!

4. Well, both the men and women are
drawn in graphic and unrealistic (optimistic) detail. But they see that in movies and TV too.

7. That is being gentle but that is not all comics
but I know of what you speak of. Its actually a an in-joke among those involved in the making of comics how bad some of them are. The worst are two companies called "Top Cow" and "Image" comics. Where its doubtful any of their heroine sport anything less than a 38 DD on a frame of an athlete.

3. Most parents view comics through their own memories
Edited on Mon Apr-04-05 02:41 AM by lenidog
which depending on when they were born means mindless stupid crap. They do not realize that start lets say 15 to 20 years ago comics changed forever. A revolution in comics started and it changed them from being Archie comics to titles like Hellblazer, Sandman, etc. Basically they told stories that kids could no longer read because they couldn't understand them. Parents don't realize that comics have moved from the mindless drivel to actual literature in some cases. (okay some are still drivel but its adult drivel now) I received flack years ago from a girlfriend, I told her that I had to stop off and pcik up my comics. She looked at me like I had grown a second head. (I was 21, she was 32) She still remembered comics being Archie and Veronica or Richie Rich. She didn't realize that they had changed, So I went and bought my comics with her in tow. I picked up titles like the "Sandman," "Hellblazer" etc. Let her read them and she changed her tune.

5. I used to read them and they made me a progressive.
I believe it did anyhow. You can't help but notice that things you see in comic books that are scifi at the time, become reality later on. Like microwave ovens and things like that. It would take a person with an imagination to come up with that concept. A repug would never think of that. Usually, they will try to STOP the person who does think of new things...

6. Well, that's changing, I think.
The older generation still view comics with distaste, but like everything else, that perception will end when they die off.
