Seems I missed all of the commotion

1. Fan went for a foul ball at the same time as a player
Seems the Cubs player would have made the catch, but the fan interfered with it. The Cubs went on from there to blow that game, and the next one. Now the fan is being blamed for it, which is absurd, but there you go.

His last name is Bartman. Do a google search under "Bartman Cubs fan" and you'll get the whole story.

3. The stupidity of the average sports fan.
Maybe the sub-average, but there are a hell of a lot of people pissed at this guy. I guess tehy've never heard the saying, "Hey it's just a game"

4. Well if you think about it, if there are (say) 5 million Cub fans
and only 1/10th of 1 percent are psychotic assholes (which would be a great name for a band, by the way) that would leave 5,000 idiots to call or send death threats to this poor schmoe. The vast majority of Cubs fans, probably more than those of any other team other than those here at the University of South Carolina, are (for obvious reasons) of the shrug your shoulders, "we'll get 'em next" persuasion. I feel sorry for Bartman, and worry for him, but we can't tar all Cubs fans on the grounds that some few of them are lunatics, just like we can't say they're all idiots because he had a momentary lapse of judgment regarding a foul ball.

5. He'll probably end up on Letterman and Leno,
cashing in on his 15 minutes of fame.

6. Most Of The Fans Have Calmed Down
But he has earned a footnote in Cubs' history and I don't hold much hope for his luck in getting dinner reservations in Chicago soon.

Jebthro has offered him amnesty, two hotels have offered him 6 months free rent in ocean view hotel rooms, a radio station in Florida has offered him a job and they're making a movie about his bonehead play.

The cops are still watching his place in Northbrook though and the address is available to anyone with a phone book.
