OMG my thighs are on fire!
As many of you know my son uses a wheelchair to be mobile. Even though he lifts weights and uses his chair to go on walks and goes swimming for exercises he still has trouble with his belly being too big. I have the same problem because I'm lazy and eat too much :)

We had used the Tae-Bo tapes with some success for a while but we are now bored with Billy Banks and wanted something new and exciting. So I bought a couple of Pilate's DVDs.

It didn't seem too hard at first but by the end of a ten minute workout we were both out of breath. About an hour later both of us were complaining about sore muscles. Today I can barely walk and when I try to stand up from sitting in a chair my thighs feel like they are on fire.

I guess it's a good thing...but ouch x(!

1. Pilates will whip you into shape...
From your knees to your upper stomach... it's excellent. Does the tape have modified exercises to work up to the more difficult level? I know mine has that, and it helped in the beginning!

4. Yes, we did the basics/beginning
And I'm still hurting! I was walking accross the street this morning and a car starting coming, so I tried to jog a little to get out of the way AND COULDN'T!!

I do feel like I'm standing up taller, so it will be a good thing someday!

5. I used to be a runner and love the outdoors
just seems like no time and this way I get to spend some time with my son doing something worthwhile (if we don't die doing it!)

7. I tried jogging before,
when I lived in CF. Went to the UniDome on their track. I still couldn't stay with it. Walking however is pure heaven. It's something I can stay with.

10. Whenever I run more than a mile my ankles start to burn
It feels like I've injected hot sauce into my tendons. So, I don't run. Ride my bike, hiking, ok But running sucks.

11. We have all the nature trails now so it's easier
to walk out your front door and go. I just hate to leave my son behind and it's difficult for us to go together (different paces and such).

22. We've got Lime Creek here.
But I like one of the parks. A few small hills to make it a better workout.

3. Gentle stretching followed by a warm epsom salt bath
should help. Take some Tylenol or Advil.

I've wanted to try Pilates. It sounds intense.

8. Warm bath sounds great!
It really does look easy and the excercised are simple to follow, you just use muscles you didn't know you had.

The DVDs I bought each have 10 min. sections that work a specific part of the body so I can do 10 min. a day for 10 days w/out duplicating my workout (or do two different segments or whatever).

But 10 min. about killed me! :silly:

6. I need to do my pilates.
I've been doing only the kickboxing, and ignoring my pilates workouts. I'm so lazy. :(

Thanks for reminding me... maybe tonight I'll finally do it. :)

I'm sure that this will too after a while, but by then I hope we can do some real yoga and deep relaxation techinques.

21. Actually, I found Tae Bo exceptionally boring.
I like to record the early shows on Fitness TV and try them out... I'm enjoying the one I'm doing now a lot... may go ahead and buy the DVD soon.

I want to try yoga, too... I just keep putting it off.

30. Bodies in Motion with Gilad or Caribean Workout?
Those are the shows on in the AM here. The others are some cardio-dance stuff that I don't have enough coordination to do (and I was a cheerleader in highschool)

31. I tried Gilad and liked that...
but if you catch Cathe Friedrich's Cardio Blast, sometimes those are really good. She does some that are step-aerobics that I liked but I didn't get a good sweat.

Cathe Friedrich's Kick, Punch, and Crunch is what I'm doing now... it's great! Not a lot of dancy stuff, just a really intense low-impact workout with lots of kicks and punches and some floor work at the end (which I've been skipping lately... ugh).
