Just kdding. It's in Alberta...the Praires.

If you want to start a business having an idea is key before movinghere. Some of the cities are so diverse it could make a big difference.

Why do you like it there?

Me, I don't like it there. I'm from Vancouver and thus must hate all things Calgary...but I may be moving there shortly, so I'll need to start I guess.

Calgary, well. Most people say it's vibrant, good economy, new. Line dancing scene is amazing...other than that...I don't know... (I hate line dancing)

But I can't complain, I'm one of the 'sprawlers.' We're having some traffic issues because of this, but at least it's not like Vancouver. :evilgrin: And hey, it's on the EDGE of the prairies, I can drive for less than half an hour and be right in the mountains.

Sigh...if I go, I'll miss that!

Even with directions I get hopelessly lost.

The sith for the turnoff for highway 2 north to get into deerfoot trail is the size of a postage stamp and blocked by two other signs.

Why not move to Edmonton?

Edmonton is great, though sometimes refered to as Deadmonton..get the drift..they have more malls per capita than any other city in the world or something....it's kinda like Minneapolis...but more north

being 67...so I would move anywhere they needed my talents.

I am considering leaving if he wins too, Canada is on that list, New Zealand thats been brought to my attention and it seems cool but I dunno. Look at the flag in my sig, thats under consideration. I graduate next year and thats hard to believe. Isn't it sad breezy after our famlies settled this fine land that we would be refugees. I dont think my ancestors expected that. I am not sure where I would go, Ireland and Canada among others I would consider. Why Ireland? Lets just say I have a yearning for the emerald isle, I feel like I should return long after the Keowns(my nana's surname which is Irish)) left, my other 3 countries are under consideration but I dont know German, Slovak, or Slovenian although for the latter I got a dictionary. Win or lose the election I will go to those lands.

Wouldnt mind visiting or even living in Germany. I felt real proud of Schroder for being against the war, I am not sure where in Germany my family came from but I assume its in the south, I have two theories why, most of south Germany is Catholic and we are Catholic that is my family and second of all and more convicing is that I have been told we may be Swiss-German.

I might retire in NZ but Canada will do nicely in the meantime.

Weather's great, the economy is good. Lot's of tourism, and close enough to Vancouver to do some commuting if need be. The beaches and mountains are sublime, and Whistler is a stone's throw away. Nice spot. Then, there's also southern B.C. in the Okanogan Valley. They grow great grapes there now (Canada's Napa Valley), and the country is beautiful, though a little cold in the winter. It's known as Canada's fruit basket too. Any place where pears, apples, and grapes can grow, is a good place for humans to live.

There's a few ideas for you. Also, B.C. is probably the most liberal of all their provinces.

I don't understand your hatred of Calgary, I have nothing against Vancouver. Except we're not going to get Olympic development money here anymore, and the speedskating oval needs a lot of repairs. :(

As I said, the sports rivalry...maybe it's a younger Canadian thing. But everyone I know here loves to knocked Calgary, and I hear it's vice versa there. Oh well, a little rivalry never hurt anyone!

but not by much. Strangely, Calgary has a tradition of electing Liberals as mayors, at least the last five have been such. Even Ralph, he was a lib when elected. I think Edmonton's current mayor is pretty right-wing.

Edmonton has a large, vibrant gay and arts community.

Edmonton is the only place in Alberta to elect Liberal Party members to Parliament.

Edmonton has an openly gay member of city council.

I am going on a road-trip to look at these cities up close.
I want to avoid the Great American Evacuation.

When I was just 18 I went there alone.... man 18 and in Montreal yoowwwzaaa!

Went to school there 25 yrs ago. We plan to retire there, if I live that long :)

I think the economy is kinda down, but it's always been a government/retiree town. Been a lot of gov. cutbacks lately.

Ferries: you can ride to Port Angeles or Seattle, or up to Tsawwassen and down across the border.

Windsor? WHile it is right next to Detroit and I'm sure many AMericans recongnize it for that, it's really just a small city here.

But it is a pretty small town. And it is home to the "Windsor Ballet."

Northern Lights in the winter. 24 hour sunlight in the summer. Grizzly bears, caribou, and moose in the back yard. Bustling metropolis of 3500 friendly people.

I visited Inuvik summer before last- 86 degrees in July but the locals ALL told me they prefered the "cooler" months.

Toronto and Vancouver are cosmopolitan cities with lots of diversity.

Windsor is near Detroit/US border.

Victoria is close to Vancouver.

Plus, all these places are on good-sized bodies of water - essential for this sailor/boater.
