Poll question: Best worst (or worst best) pop song
You know the ones: songs so awful they're almost good again. Over-produced, over-sung, or under-written, they're traffic accidents with guitar solos. My personal weakness is for the first two below; Alice and I sometimes claim that we're going to use "Don't Stop Believin'" in our wedding (assuming we ever have one).

1. Her name was LOLA
she was a showgirl
yellow feathers in her hair
and a dress cut down to there...

the sad thing is that I did not have to google those lyrics

16. "I write the songs that make the whole world sing"
you have to admit, though syrupy and kind of shallow....he's pretty good at what he does, and it works.

3. I Love Daydream Believer
I happened upon Peter Tork and his current band ("Shoe Suede Blues") at a Greenbelt MD fair a year ago. He was pretty good. The crowd loved it, and "DB" took the cake.

4. Probably 2 of the most hated songs by Professional Musicians:
Edited on Fri Oct-17-03 02:36 PM by Radicalliberal
Louie, Louie
Wipe-Out

Any person learning to play an instrument could play these songs (and I use the term lightly)
on their 3rd day of instuction....and do them better then the originals!

And the "Bunny-Hop" rates a close third... :)

8. I ought to take this and "Suddenly" by Billy Ocean and replace a couple
of the ones that don't have votes yet, but I'm not sure either strictly speaking qualify. (In other words, I'm not sure they aren't just bad-bad, especially "Seasons In The Sun," unless it's the delightfully whacked Too Much Joy version.)

10. Help me
There was a song in the 80's with the words, "Oh Ricki your so fine, you so fine you blow my mind". I hate it and couldn't get it out of my head for months. Thanks alot, it's back!

13. The only cure: Police On My Back by The Clash
It can save you from any bad song, I swear. If you don't know it, or the emergency backup (Train In Vain), um, I dunno, Ticket To Ride or Day Tripper might help.

18. Originally it was "Oh, Mickey, you're so fine..."
by Toni Basil, an ex-Las Vegas High cheerleader of no further consequence.

It was bad enough that Weird Al Yankovic (or a kindred spirit) felt compelled to do the "Ricky" version -- in the voices of Ricky and Lucy Ricardo!!

17. Never Been to Me--Heard it differently after watching Priscilla, Queen of
the Desert.

Those of you who have seen the movie know what I mean!

It is by far the worst song ever written and the worst record ever recorded, BUT what they do to it in Priscilla somehow redeems it and makes it terrible good!

Not a Britney fan, but this is one of the most appealing pop songs, despite the dumb lyrics.
