I Can't Believe the Tarheels are 2-Point Favorites

according to the ESPN Daily Line:

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

    FAVORITE	LINE	UNDERDOG	OVER/UNDER
    No Carolina	  2	Illinois	  153

I know NC is the class of the ACC this year, but Illinios is the clear national #1 and has only lost once all year.

2. The ACC is just better

UNC should be favored by 10, so I can't believe the 2 point spread either.

UNC has tougher conference opponents, so losing one game doesn't mean much here.

3. The Big 10 did a lot better in the tournament, though

yeah, everyone said the ACC was the best conference, but other than UNC all the ACC teams have faded in the postseason ...

5. Actually it would be several given sundays

or perhaps UNC beating Illinois (if in fact they do) is an any given Sunday thing :D

But honestly, other than NC State over UConn, UNC is the only ACC team to have beaten anybody decent in the postseason ... if the tarheels win they'll be the best team in the land, but it won't make the ACC the best conference ...

8. I admit a bias

My parents, sister, and nephew all live in NC (and my nephew is the only native of that state in the family), and so I feel a vested interest in defending them.

I grew up near Tarheel country, on the state border in VA, and coach Dean Smith was a great liberal, who coached Michael Jordan, among others, and my favorite NBA coach, George Karl. :D

I'm pulling for Illinois just b/c I'll probably go to grad school there, but as far as conference biases go I've got no room to talk, since I'm a Big 12 guy and they totally laid an egg this year ;)

10. They are having a low percentage because the defense is tighter

than they normally see. They are having a hard time getting the shot off. They also had trouble against Arizona. At this level, they are not able to out-quick the opponent like they have been used to doing, and they don't have a strong low post game to go to to collapse the defense. They are in trouble unless UNC gets tired (not likely) or they get hot (let's hope).

11. I'm Surprised They're Going for So Many Threes

if they can't get under the basket, they should be able to get 15-foot shots. NC's defense is good, but it's more than that. The Illini need to make some offensive adjustments.
