I had a horrible nightmare last night! ...Dreamed Jerry Falwell died and
everything on TV was all about Christian Fundamentalism 24/7 for weeks. Endless commentary and interviews with Pat Robertson,(Who got his own show) DeLay, Santorium, DOBSON, Bob Schindler and his Brothers and Jebby to boot! Can you imagine anything worse than that?
Well yes...that it was a prophetic dream and I'm psychic!

I couldn't take that. I think I'd have to pull an Elvis and shoot my goddamned television.

3. it wouldn't be as big of a deal as the pope
There are more than a billion Catholics around the world. The numbers of Christian fundamentalists are far less. Some channels would cover it constantly, but I hold out the hope there would be a Falwell free zone, PBS perhaps.

8. they don't do 24/7
The Newshour does a series of stories. They rarely just cover one thing. I still have yesterday's on TIVO and haven't watched it yet, but I seriously doubt it's all pope.

4. The only thing worse would be Falwell living another 20 years.

5. They'd need more than 12 guys to haul his fat ass off on a litter
But hey, this is America, they'd probably winch him up on top of a Hummer and drive him 'round so that the faithful wouldn't have to disaccomodate themselves by doing something like *stand* in a LINE for eight to ten hours!

You do know what the coverage would have been had the Pope not died--we would have gotten extended Johnnie Corchoran coverage, to include his public viewing, history of OJ all over again, and his life story. They were just getting going on it when events shifted to Rome.

6. LOL
:spray:

Not Johnnie Cochran. We'd still be on Terri Schiavo. God works in mysterious ways.

9. Apparently, though, JC had a PUBLIC VIEWING
...over the course of two days. Not quite the red litter and the cardinals and archbishops in robes, accompanied by priests by the hundreds, thousands of acolytes and a massive contingent of Swiss Guard, carabinieri, and so forth, but I understand it was fairly well attended by a number of dignitaries.

If it MOVES, and the images are interesting, the media will cover it. I think people were getting sick of that same stupid tape with the blank stare, the balloon, and the fat people sweating in the Pinellas Park sun holding up the same lameass signs. Even an obtuse idiot has to look at that nonsense complete with people selling snacks, and jugglers to boot, and say "How EMBARRASSING!"
