Funny how you can build up an ignore list based on a single topic . . .
3 People added to my ignore list in less than 24 hours. All of them for the same reason, condoning the killing by human beings of helpless domestic animals for no reason other than acting on instinct.

What's odd, is that in all the time I've been at DU, I've never seen posts of interest from any of these people, until they chose to start finding ways to justify killing someones pet.

The good thing about this is that because none of their posts have ever merited my attention before, I won't miss anything by ignoring their posts. The bad part? That people who consider themselves progressive or liberal in any way would condone such behavior even in jest.

Ah well.

2. Don't you think putting posters on ignore is kinda silly?
I have been here a while and so far I haven't the urge to put anyone on ignore. There are a few that get on my last nerve but I just ignore them completely. What if you miss something important or funny that they say at a later time?

interested me in the past. I don't think it's likely to change in the future.

I smile serenely, knowing that my blood pressure will remain within acceptable parameters. :)

I don't know which, or what he said, and somehow I take great satisfaction in knowing that I no longer have to even see his posts.

If you put them on ignore, how can you see that they have posted?

19. You can't , that's the point. You can, however, see a list of posts
and each time someone you have on ignore posts, you will see "ignored" instead of a post title and author.

So when you're viewing your thread, and you see "ignored" you know someone who you have on ignore has posted, and you can rest secure in the knowledge that their offensive remarks will offend only those who choose to pay attention to them.

It's called "reclaiming my time".

A newer phrase I'm coming up with is "restoring DU".

10. I don't think it is in jest...
i believe that this deliberate pushing of buttons, finding someones passions and ridiculing and demeaning the object of those passions, is a deliberate tactic. Demoralization, stress, fracturing the goodwill amongst a group we consider friends.

Now, what kind of people would want us demoralized, stressed, mistrusting each other?

I'm just sayin'.

23. Well, There Are Some Topics Where Well-Meaning DUers Might Disagree
Terri Schiavo, for instance. While I felt very strongly that justice was achieved when her feeding tube was finally removed, I can understand the viewpoints of those who would disagree. I can also understand disagreements between people on the topic of choice, though I am pro-choice all the way. Same with religion, gun control, what have you.

Some subjects, like homophobia, racism, freedom of speech -- I have my opinions and I do not see how any "real" DUer could disagree with those opinions.

Still more subjects, I honestly don't care either way. Do I think someone's pet cats should be ground up into hamburger meat? Of course not. Do I find it somewhat entertaining when they think I have that belief? Yeah. When one DUer tells another DUer that he is basically another Jeffrey Dahmer -- or worse, Bill Frist -- because he would rather kill a roaming cat that keeps killing his birds than let the cat turn his backyard into a bird buffet... I like to have a little fun with that DUer.

If that lands me on his or her ignore list... oh well. No big loss on my part.

38. Apparently You Are A Freeper
If you like birds more than cats. Or if you don't particularly care for cats. Or if you like cats just fine but wish that their owners would keep them reigned in so they don't kill your birds, knock over your trash cans, put footprints on your car, yowl outside your window at night, et cetera.

12. I haven't put anyone on ignore yet, but I may be on some people's ignore
I don't know, very rarely do people respond to me unless I say something outrageous!

We have 12 acres of land for the animals to roam. Cats, rabbits, birds (ducks, geese, pelicans & swans included), squirrels, snakes, deer, raccoons, opossums, our dogs, coyotes, mice and even rats (okay, I don't like the rats).

We don't poison or bait (I do chase the coons when they try to eat the cat food). We live too close to the wetlands to use any chemicals or pesticides.

And I find it extremely comical. Racooons are so funny looking when they run :). (They're also one of my favorite animals in the world, but that's okay, let 'em get their own food) :).

I was over in that "Egg Salad" thread and DAMN, I hate people who love egg salad. I went on a veritable Ignore Spree.

Of course, you can't see this because I said I'd call the Chinese restaurant on your cat if it came into my yard and made a pest of itself.

But still.

I guess you literally won't know what you're missing out on.

28. I'm sympathetic, but speaking as someone who grew up in the country...
...I can tell you that people often talk big about what they would do to animals in a certain situation, but most of that is just talk.

I think most of the loose talk on this subject is just that: talk.

32. whatever
I figure that people who make announcements that they are ignoring other people are just looking for attention. My theory would be that if you are really ignore someone, you would just ignore them. Otherwise, it gets too high school.

Nobody on my ignore list. The disruptors get banned, and the others might have something meaningful to say down the road. I can think someone is a total idiot today, and yet they might say something brilliant tomorrow. And we all have bad days, too.
