My doorbell just rang.

I went to answer it and found my new landlord standing there. He handed me our garage door opener and talked to me a little bit.

The whole time we were standing there he seemed weird and uncomfortable. I couldn't figure out why until I got back upstairs and realized that I was wearing a t-shirt that says "Bush/Cheney 1984" on it.

The bad part is that the meaning of the shirt is not entirely clear. If you just glanced at it, it totally looks like a real Bush/Cheney campaign shirt unless you read it closely. I had someone else tell me once that it is kind of startling to see me in it knowing my political feelings.

I'm pretty sure he was weirded out by the t-shirt. But what I don't know is WHY he was weirded out. Is it because he's a conservative and was offended by the message? Or is it because he's a liberal and didn't read the shirt carefully enough and now thinks I'm a Bushie?

This is really bugging me. It's ok if he's a conservative and he's offended. That would be ok. This shirt is meant to afflict the comfortable. But it would really bother me if he was a cool liberal-type guy and now thinks I'm a Nazi.

*sigh* I think that I might have to put on another political t-shirt the next time I think he's coming over just so my "identity" is clear.

I have been thinking about it more, and I think that the poster who said that he was probably a confused liberal is right. Unfortunately.

I might have to put a Kerry sign in the window or something so he doesn't think he rented the place to rednecks.

...would have gotten the "joke" enough to be made uncomfortable by it. I'm going to guess that he was a liberal who didn't look carefully.

If he didn't get the joke, he might have been trying to remember if Bush/Cheney ran for office in 1984. Seriously. Not everyone is as politically aware as you are or the people on DU.
