1. over-drinking
of any sort.

I'm not terribly prone to hangovers, but I always feel bad after drinking too much the night before, no matter what I drink.

4. I find that I can get buzzed on a nice wine and feel okay the next day
Get buzzed to the same degree on vodka, and I feel like SHIT the next day (not to mention that the buzz is MUCH less pleasurable)

5. I honestly think it's all imaginary...
alcohol is what hurts you. There are no special chemicals in vodka or bourbon that hurt. It's the amount and your general health and hydration going into your it.

9. Personally, I've never found that a problem
At university (my hardest drinking days) I'd be in the pub for a couple of pints of beer by half past 4; then drink some gin whilst making supper, and then wine with supper.

11. It certainly seems like that
I have friends who only have to look at a bottle of gin and can feel the head-ache start; yet I can drink bucket-loads of it and be bouncing round like a spring bunny the next morning.

7. Red wine - port even more so
If I drink red wine without eating at the same time, I can barely get through more than a bottle without nasty hangover. I blame all of the crap that's in there (which tastes yummy yummy yummy); I can drink bucket loads of gin (my other favoured poison) without trouble.

Drinking with food has never given me a hand-over though; and the trick of drinking 3 pints of water just before bed also works wonders in my experience.

25. Red wine never gives me a hangover.
A slight headache, maybe, but that's all.

Mixing booze is what gets me. Wine and mized drinks isn't too bad, but if I mix beer with anything (or even just drink domestic beer) I feel like hell the next day.

15. I'm a bit surprised people chose wine
then again I've never really had enough to cause myself a hangover. I kinda felt it was the smoothest way to get drunk.

I'll say Jim Beam, because I had an especially bad experience with it.

But then again, that's probably the case with any hard liquor. Chugging hard liquor is stupid and I learned it the hard way.

Depending on how much I have, I'll feel like complete shit the next day.

16. I blame age..
And I imagine some cheap beer drinkers migrated to wine with age (and increased income). So they blame wine while ignoring that they have gotten older. Food and water seem to be the big factors with hangovers now-a-days for me. I'm punk rock so I still drink The Beast. Ten years and counting..

18. I'm 25 and drank wine before I drank beer.
Wine is the only substance which has given me a hang-over.

I agree that food and water are the major effects, a decent amount of either (or both) will stop any hang-over dead in its tracks.

17. Wine's the only thing that makes me hung-over
No I'm not old either.

The purer the alcohol the less likely I am to get a hand-over. Red wine is full of other 'muck' which appears to affect poor little me.

I can drink loads of gin without ill effect.

Different people are affected in very different ways.

19. Mixing. My worst problem was mixing mixes.
I was at a work Christmas party. I over did it because I had a hotel room.

Most of the night I drank vodka/juice drinks (with a lot of citrus.) I had red and white wine with dinner.

Later that night, my friend's husband made me a Paralyzer (vodka, kaulua, milk and coke) which I drank. The milk was a bad idea. I had a wicked headache and I did a lot of this... :puke:

26. It's really not the alcohol itself, it's the additives.
Noticed that a lot of people chose "wine" from the poll, but it's probably not so much the wine itself as it is the sulfites that are in most of the commercially available wine.

The average domestic beer is loaded with preservatives and crap as well. So if you're drinking in quantity and not quality, you'll probably pay the price.

Mixing different kinds of alcohol over the course of the evening is usually what did me in. But that was more a :puke:fest at the end of the night than feeling miserable in the morning.

Now that I usually stick to just good quality beer, it's usually a minor dehydration issue in the morning (if anything at all) and that's easy enough to fix.

;)

Actually I read an article a while back about that, and it's true. If you're going to mix different alcohols, you start off with the one with the highest alcohol content, and go down from there. Never work your way up. Never, ever. Or else; :puke:

37. Sugary mixed drinks
rum and cokes, fruffy sweet "margaritas", those fruity martinis.
Alcohol and sugar precipitates in your tissues, maximizing your headache and sore muscles the next day.

However I'd still say wine is the worst with all those sulfates and crap.
