Man Arrested For Killing Not One, But TWO Wives
<snip>

SANTEE – A 57-year-old man was arrested outside his mobile home yesterday on suspicion of killing two wives – one in Santee last fall, the other in San Bernardino nearly 32 years ago.

Detectives investigating the Oct. 15 shooting death of Phyllis New discovered that her husband's first wife, Somsri New, also had been shot to death, sheriff's Capt. Glenn Revell said.

William Peter New was arrested about 4:15 p.m. in the parking lot of New Frontier Mobile Home Community, an upscale gated retirement community on North Magnolia Avenue.

He is suspected of shooting both wives in the homes he shared with each, Revell said.

About 4 a.m. on Oct. 15, New telephoned for help for his wife, who he said had been injured by someone who broke into their home. He told deputies the door was ajar when he returned from a trip to a drugstore.

Phyllis New was declared dead at the scene. An autopsy showed she died of a gunshot wound consistent with a homicide, Revell said.

1. If you watch shows like "Forensic Files" you'll see this happens more
often than you want to know.

3. Coming soon to a forensic show near you
I am addicted to all of the non-fiction forensic science shows on Discovery and Court TV etc. This kind of thing happens all of the time. Usually if somebody just didn't kill again they would have gotten away with the first one. But they usually get greedy or cocky and mess up which causes new detectives to look at everything.

I joke with my husband that I'm watching to find out how to kill him and get away with it. It is nearly impossible.

5. I have a hard time with prosecutors opening 30 year old cases
based on something unrelated that just happened.

Don't get me wrong. If the guy is guilty of this recent killing I would like to see him go away. I just have a problem with the cops refusal to believe in "coincidences" and their ability to have a medical examiner take a "fresh look" at 30 year old pictures and call it a homicide.
