I read it a few years ago and keep thinking about it. Would make a wonderful movie. Wonder why Oprah hasn't done it.
O well.

1. Yeah.
It'd make a really dramatic film.

How'd you run across it?

2. I have a book of African-American Literature.
Was one of the selections. Really enjoyed it.

3. It would be great on film.
I would love to see it on film but after hearing about Oprah's version of "Their Eyes Were Watching God" by Zora Neale Hurston, I don't think she would be the best candidate to produce it.

There was a brand new edition of this narrative published a few years ago -- hardcover, larger book size (I think), and it included old photographs of some of the actual people (and maybe even places) including Jacobs' psycho slavemaster.

Another slave narrative to look up would be Olaudah Equiano's narrative -- one of the more earlier slave narratives -- a man who gained his freedom on the sea. I think he even became a captain of his own ship, but don't quote me on that... it's been a while.

4. Thank you. I shall look for that. Sounds very interesting.
Incredible what the human spirit can endure, isn't it?

6. It is.
Equiano's story is a great read for people into sea stories and the like -- it's a great adventure tale in addition to being an important historical text.

5. I didn't watch "Eyes" - I did see "Beloved" and thought it remained
very true to the book. I certainly wish someone would put it up on the big screen and do it justice. A story that should be shared!
