Florida?
Anyone have a favorite place in Florida? If so, why? If you live there, do you like your town, and if you could move there, where would you go and why?

I realize the state has been inundated these past years (decades) with non-native transplants from around the country, but are there any 'unspoiled' parts of the state you'd recommend?

I've never been there, but my husband lived there many years ago (a little while in Miami for a project, a little while in J'ville, and some time down in the Keys) but I'm sure it has changed drastically in the last 15-25 years.

2. DOT is still working on I4 between Orlando & Tampa. Just like
they were in 1978 when I first drove that road.

5. Ha, no doubt.
I4 will NEVER be "done" because as soon as they finish the current widening, they need to do it again...or add an overpass...or another friggin Disney exit...

4. Depends what you want in a place to live.
I live in Tampa. It's okay. I live in a great community, so I'd say that I do like where I live. My drive to work would have me singing a different tune, as most folks I encounter seem to be somewhat inept behind the wheel.

The beach on Christmas is nice.

My favorite place though, is in the pine flatwoods on my Gary Fisher Sugar...I'm sure that's not what you were looking for.

6. lived in orlando-hated it. live in tallahassee--love it
orlando's traffic is horrible and there are too many tourists; Tallahassee has two universities and although the legislature comes in every year, nobody pays much attention to them except the call girls whose business increases exponentially. This is a very liberal city, hilly with lots of trees, camillas, and 20 feet tall azaleas.

8. I live in St.Petersburg and truly love it. The St Pete Times is.....
..one of the most Liberal Major Newspapers around....plus the weathers great, the people are friendly and it's easy to get to just about anywhere...

And I say this even having to endure the Terri S circus which was only 6 blocks from where I live.. :)

One other thing..Check (on the web) on "best places to live"...The Tampa bay area is usually very high in the ratings.

9. St. Augustine ...
It's really quaint & historical. Don't bother with the fountain of youth, though. Not very impressive. :)

11. Despite its traffic, crime, rude people, corruption and materialism
I really enjoy Miami. It's got a lot going for it right now.

This, however, is far from "unspoiled".

It's very hard to beat a drive down to Key West with the windows down and the salty breeze blowing through your hair.
