Wendy's 'Finger In Chili' Case Widens - Police Search Woman's Home
<snip>

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Investigators searched the Las Vegas home of a woman who claimed she scooped up a mouthful of finger along with her chili at a Wendy’s restaurant last month.

City police, working with their counterparts in Las Vegas, served the warrant Wednesday as they investigated how a finger ended up in Anna Ayala’s bowl of chili.

“We are looking into every aspect in this case,” San Jose police spokeswoman Gina Tepoorten said. “We are talking to people she knows as well as the finder of the finger. ... We want to determine who this finger belongs to and how it ended up in a bowl of chili.”

Police would not say what was listed in the warrant.

On Thursday, Wendy’s announced it would give a $50,000 reward to the first person providing verifiable information leading to the positive identification of the origin of the finger.

“It’s very important to our company to find out the truth in this incident,” said Tom Mueller, Wendy’s president and chief operating officer.

Wendy’s maintains the finger did not enter the food chain in its ingredients.

1. So basically...
They're looking for a wrist containing the other 4 fingers in her home? Because everytime I want a free meal, I cut off random body parts and put them in my food. :eyes:

2. This wouldn't exactly be the first time
someone has done something to extort money from restaurants.
Free meal? How about millions of dollars?

(Not saying she did that, just that the theory is not out of the realm of the possibility)

3. I gotta agree with you. And confess, that that was my first thought.
That, plus the fact that there are other ways to obtain a finger other than from one's self. :hi:

4. I know.
I'm just saying, there's a chance that something like this actually came from Wendy's itself.

5. Well, of course there is.
But there is also a chance it did not, which is why they are looking around elsewhere.
They are still looking into Wendy's and their supplier, but it would be short-sighted to not at least investigate the off chance that she brought in a cadaver's finger.

6. That was one of my first thoughts
the person who served the chili at Wendys would have noticed a human finger in the little paper container it is served in.
Unless he was not paying attention.
Or maybe a Wendys employee did it himself

8. I was thinking about the Wendy's employee thing too. But..
what would be the motive of the employee? Shits and giggles? Did they not like this woman?
I can see a huge motive for the woman to do it - and if it were deliberately done, she would be the only one with anything to gain.

Of course, it could just have been some weird accident, too.

10. Rumors of a dead aunt?
I read that on DU, but without elaboration, so take it for what it's worth...

9. Finger
A few years ago, a finger ended up in some hamburger at a school cafeteria. It was traced back to a meat processing plant in California where it was found that one of the employees there had had an "industrial accident".

11. The 411 now is that it may have been the woman's aunts finger
and the aunt recently died

15. My thought was that it came from the meat processors
Those meat-packing places are notorious for their accident rate and they are not above covering up accidents (like someone losing a finger) or the employees may be afraid to report accidents. I just hope there aren't other parts elsewhere. Yuck.
