*sigh*...I get so tired of being a mom sometimes
The 4 yr old is sick. I'm supposed to be at work today. My male counterpart has a job that *actually* supports the family, not a piddly part-time office job that could not possibly support us. Thus, when the kids are sick (which they have been moreso in the last few weeks than in the last few years, if ever), it only makes sense that I stay home with them.

So I call into work, explain the situation...I can practically HEAR them rolling their eyes. I get the long pause, the "Umm-hmmm...ok, if you have to, I guess there's nothing we can do about it" and then *CLICK*.

:(

2. Awwww, Sweetie...
Don't you love being reminded how deep family values really run for most people?

:pals:

You're doing what's right... fuck 'em.

Give the little one a kiss for me. :)

3. I understand what you're talking about
Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 11:21 AM by ewagner
during our "child raising" years, my wife worked for an accounting firm which had very, very strict attendence rules for tax season. On the other hand, my time was more flexible (OTR sales) so when sicknesses or DR appointments happened during tax season, I filled in. It worked pretty well but the down side was for the discretionary events like school plays, sporting events, etc., Whne my wife couldn't be there to enjoy them, I was....

We were actually pretty lucky I suppose......

4. Oh, don't be sad. In a few years, your kids won't be so sick all the time.
When they get older, they're not as prone to illness.

And then, when they're teens, you only have to call in late to work because you'll be down at the Police Station bailing them out.

Life is so rich, when you have teenagers.

5. I'm sorry, sweetie.
I trust she has stopped puking at least.

And yes, I've had that response a time or two myself. Mostly from bosses who have nannies taking care of their kids. :(

We've luckily avoid most of the "ickies" this year.

Sorry to hear your little one isn't feeling well.

Kids have to come first, anyone that doesn't understand that is a fuckhead.

9. That sucks
when you're a mom, you've got to do what you've got to do. Sucks that the people you work with aren't more understanding.

I hope your wee one feels better soon.

10. I know how you feel
although I work full time, when my kids were small, only mom could tend them when they're sick and I hated calling into work for it. I work in a male dominated field, so it was much harder to get them to sympathize but they do get over it.

Just think of it this way, that's extra time that you get to spend with your child just one-on-one, soothing and comforting them when they are feeling their absolute worst. Your child will remember that for forever. The job is just a job. You can get another job, not another kid.

Hope your child gets better soon!

17. My 5 year old has been sick too
She has walking pneumonia. I am a single mom and have had to work half days all week, while her dad has been doing the same. I have to say that he has been extremely cooperative and helpful during this VERY trying week. The fevers spike in the middle of the night. On Wednesday, I found her in the bathroom at 4am with 103 fever, crying for no reason. She said she just wanted to hang out with me but didn't want to wake me. Poor thing. My job has been quite understanding, but I do hear the grumbles from the coworkers who have had to pick up the slack. Screw them! They have dogs instead kids, their choice.

19. I never had kids, but I feel for ya.
It's really important that kids get attention and care and special treatment sometimes.

I'm glad you have a partner who assists you guys monetarily. This signals that he's got your back all the way darlin.' Fuck work. Your 4 year old getting Mom's Special Care and feeling better is more important than a stupid job.

 (OK. There's something wrong with me. I just used the 'hug' smilie for the first time)

26. Office soaps..
Argh.. I hate them. Offices are nothing but a load of drama with paperwork thrown in.

Hope your 4 yr old gets better soon.. My soon to be 2 year old daughter had the rotavirus last month and boy that was fun... Hospital for 2 days, and before that it was puking for 24 hours straight.

Take time with your baby...

27. I know.
It absolutely sucks! Been there so many times. One good thing now though about my ex is that he's the boss where he works (makes his own hours, salaried, etc.), can do some of his work at home. Plus, he used to work where I work now and understands their very strict policies on missing work, so there's no excuse anymore. It's always him now. :7
