Hard to believe it's been 11 years already since Kurt joined "that stupid club"...

2. I remember it really well
I wasn't a big fan, but I remember sitting in my 9th grade math class when the teacher casually mentioned that Kurt blew his brains out - and then passed out our quizzes.

3. He was one of the few that brought some good music to the scene
I had had enough of the hair bands and I wondered if rock music was dead for sure. I will admit that I was relieved when the "grunge" scene hit because I was all "Wingered" out by that time.

4. That was my 17th birthday present
I woke up, went downstairs, and my mom told me that he'd shot himself.

That was definitely a weird birthday.

5. He actually died on April 5.
But yes, today's the anniversary of when we all heard about it. RIP, Kurt. :(

6. Wow,11 years already.
Tortured souls make great artists for whatever reason.

8. I was in Round Rock, TX
visiting my mom. I'd gone home to visit for the weekend from Dallas, and turned on M-TV (I was desperate for some cable since I'd been living without it for at least a year or 2).

I couldn't believe it. I was in a daze all weekend.

I don't know how long Courtney will be around if she keeps on the path she's on.

11. It is not a "stupid club," but a sad club indeed
I have known some people (professionally and personally) who committed suicide. None of these people were stupid--they were all above average intelligence--like Kurt Cobain. These successful suicides are usually excessively angry, extremely depressed, emotionally volatile, and/or highly anxious. I have never experienced that type of emotional turmoil--I can only imagine what it must be like to endure under that cloud of darkness.

Thanks for posting this. I miss Kurt Cobain's music. I didn't realize it has been 11 years since his death. Goddess, I am getting old.

12. What Kurt's mother was referring to by "that stupid club"
was the list of musicians whose careers were painfully short due to their own self-destructive behavior. It didn't necessarily mean suicide; Janis Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix overdosed.

I agree with you; many artists whose work I greatly admire have suicided. Our lives were enriched by their artistic contributions while they lived; our culture made that much poorer when they left us.

13. I have to comment on this thread
It's my DH and I anniversary: we had our first date on April 8, 1994. I was a big Kurt Cobain fan. The rest is history.

14. Shooting yourself = stupid
Marrying Courtney Love = Moronic

If I woke up next to THAT, I'd consider suicide too.
