What's the last album/CD you bought?
Mine: Kathleen Edwards - Back To Me. Highly recommended! Maybe slightly below Failer (which it resembles,) but not much. Favorite songs: "Back To Me," "In State," and "Summerlong."

3. Symphonies of the Planets: Volume 1
A must have for fans of Brian Eno, Harold Budd, FSOL, etc. It's actually the various magnetic signatures and various signals of the planets of our solar system translated into patterns of sound.

There's five volumes produced by NASA, all now out of print. I think Italy's Fiorella Terenzi did something similar back in the early 90s, too.

10. Yes. I didn't know who was doing the whoring out, but --
-- it was clear that someone was.

I don't associate the words and music of Nick Drake with automobiles, do you?

This sister evidently denied use of Nick's songs for a respectful and intelligent documentary by Jonathan Cauette called TARNATION. Cauette is gay and I think the sister must be very sensitive about that association. Not sure.

But your phrase "whoring out" definitely works for me.

knuckle down.

i was way into her back in the day, but then let go for a while. this the first of hers that i've purchased since upupup.

it rocks. nothing like a divorce to give you ample material. she's got some political stuff too but it's more refined and not as intense as her earlier stuff.

that woman is like a fine wine -she's just getting better better with age. musically, lyrically, it's just awesome.

:hi: cu! Again, love that pic of Dario Fo. We had friends who ran a theater here and he was one of their faves. We saw Accidental Death of An Anarchist last spring at a big venue here, and loved it.

I would be interested in hearing more sometime. One of the guys who ran the theater group, it was called The New Group Theatre ( homage, I suspect?), was in Accidental Death and was very funny. He is now an Equity guy? and is in all the bigger plays here, like the Steve Martin penned meeting of Einstein and a philosopher whose name I can't recall. I love funny politcal plays.

27. The Byrds- Sweetheart of the Rodeo
John Lennon- Acoustic, and
Big Star- #1 Record/ Radio City

Actually, I bought these back in mid-February so I've gone an unusually long while for me w/o buying CDs.

Last LP I bought was The Guess Who's American Woman just last week, to replace the totally trashed copy I had. I also picked up a couple dozen 45 RPM's, my best find being a 1973 DJ copy (it was never released as a stock copy) of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven." It's valued at $40-50 in near mint- condition and I got it for $10. Woohoo! :-)

The theme seems to be following her though life-changing experiences. Note the different elements in the CD booklet. It seems to be an extension of Little Earthquakes - LE is a classic IMO.

36. I agree...LE is great!
I liked Under the Pink slightly less, and haven't bought one of her cds again until Beekeeper (I really dig "Sleeps With Butterflies" which is why I bought it, have been pleasantly surprised so far).

I had read, though, that on Beekeeper she was working on some kind of...thing to do with women... and how bee thingies have six sides (six locations)...and the songs in each location are supposed to be kind of related...

I don't know. Maybe I'm over thinking it, LOL. Which are your favorites? I think "Hoochie Woman" is hilarious, I'm impressed how she conveys a sense of humor in her songs sometimes.

Edited on Sun Apr-10-05 05:29 PM by mvd
"Barons Of Suburbia," "Ribbons Undone" (one of her best and prettiest songs ever,) "Cars And Guitars," the short but sweet "Original Sinsuality," the haunting "The Beekeeper," "Hoochie Woman," and "Goodbye Pisces." I could have done without the repetitive and funky "Witness."

I like From The Choirgirl Hotel except for "She's Your Cocaine," but I'm most a fan of the piano-playing and folky Tori. :hi:

This is the old 1991 release, used. It had better songs than the new remastered release, but as I already own remastering software, why waste $16 when $8+the time to master (30 minutes) is eminently more effective? :D )
