I need some straight answers.

I started a thread that was locked. My OP was deemed a personal attack on all DUers. If I post what I wrote, or a link, here, this will get locked too. I'm not asking anyone to go get the thread and post it here for others. But if you have already read the thread I'm referring to, please answer honestly.

You know I've ranted on the same subject many times before and this is the first lock. But I have no intention of going to ATA to question why; the moderator already said why. Mods have a tough job and have to make judgment calls. I accept that. It's just that . . . shit. I must be lame. You all know I'm totally neurotic. So I have to ask your opinions.

If I need to be smacked down, so be it. If I'm being obtuse, I need to have it pointed out to me. I didn't intend to attack, and reading my OP, I honestly can't see what I wrote as an attack. It was a question.

So: to those who saw the thread: Was my OP an attack?

Please don't vote "no" just because you like me.

I don't agree with your opinion about too much hate on DU. But, I didn't think you were attacking anyone. Just voicing how you felt.

-- you would stay at DU. I would reiterate that today. Most of us look forward to a good post. We read it, we enjoy it, often we're informed by it, and sometimes it gives us cause to re-examine our own thoughts on a given issue.

You got a mixed bag of reactions to that post. When you post an admonishment -- no matter how skillfully worded -- you are putting yourself in a gauntlet. At DU and anyplace else. It just isn't that effective an approach, IMO.

But that has nothing to do with others wanting to keep you here with us, on DU, and vibrantly present. Do stay. Do post. Do accept the community offered, as you have extended welcome to us.

But I do find it difficult to believe (without having seen the post I would note) that you intended to make an attack.

DU is no different from nearly any other Pile O'Humans ...

There will be many things you dont like here, just like anywhere else ... but YOUR opinions about those things, and other things, are VALID ....

Nevertheless ... condemning DU as a 'source of hatred' was a bit tall an order .... with thousands of autonomous human minds working at once, a few of them are bound to do or say something irrational or mean ...

I often post controversial stuff. And, I have had certain moderators hound me. All is now fine and forgotten, and a big so-what.

My prose is honed with walls to jump where speed bumps used to slow me.

Except on that day, they think they got the better of me. That day. Those bas--- the f---- b-----, they should never have gotten away with it!!! Years of therapy. Okay, I'm alright now. I'm okay. You?

I know the mods have a hard time, and I really think Earl and Skinner do a great job here. Having said all that, I really think you should be able to say what you want and not feel afraid of being censored.

This issue has come up here before, and frankly, I don't know where the balance lies between freedom of expression and keeping order in the midst of the chaos that any message board is. I do know that we have lost members over this very same issue and I would hate for you to ever consider that DU was not a place you want to be.

I doubt there will be any marks on your "permanent record" for this. If there are, I'll help Skittles kick their ass.
