Snooze-Button Abusers Could Be In for a Race Against Time With the 'Clocky'
A grad student aims to sell an alarm that rolls away and chirps until it's found and silenced.

April 12, 2005

After centuries of cowering helplessly as their owners bash them every morning, alarm clocks are starting to run away.

"Clocky," invented by a grad student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Media Lab, is round and furry and has wheels. It takes off in search of a hiding place as soon as you hit the snooze button.

That you have to get out of bed to hunt it down after it rolls off the nightstand is considered good news by slugabeds like its creator, Gauri Nanda. <snip>

Several investors and retailers have approached Nanda, who hopes to see Clockys rolling off the manufacturing line within a year and selling for less than $30 each. The prototype is coated in carpet, which Nanda envisions replacing with a soft fabric.<snip>

1. Sign me up, I actually abuse the snooze on, count em, THREE ALARM CLOCKS
Alarm Clock one is the obnoxious beep which goes off at 5:30, the time I really should get my ass out of bed

Alarm Clock two is set for 5:45, which is WYSP here in Philly and yes, that snooze button gets hit too

Alarm Clock three is actually my cell phone with the alarm set on it for 6am which is really cutting it close to getting to work on time

I after 45 minutes of smacking the snooze button I usually get out of bed aroun 6:15, giving me exactly 30 minutes to get showered and ready for work and out the door by 6:45.

I've tried putting an alarm across the room but I would naturally get up out of bed, walk over, hit the snooze button and then go back to bed.

I'm hopeless!! Probably why I'm getting a sleep study done!

5. My phone alarm goes off at 4:55, and my clock alarm at 4:57
I jump out of bed and get on a conference call at 5:00am. Keeping east coast hours on the west coast is challenging, but worth it.

2. Put me on the list.
I have 2 alarm clocks, but I has 2 separate alarms, so I have 3 alarms. I don't pay attention to the first (it is blarring accross the room) and the 2nd & 3rd go off at different intervals, but I just use good old snooze. I also have a friend that calls to wake me up - thanks for the call - snooze for another 1/2 hour or hour.

It has to be loud, very loud!
