We just got Mr GoG's wallet back
Someone threw it on my neighbor's porch. Everything's in it but the cash and his keys; but a fat lot of good that does us now since we stopped all cards and got him a new drivers license & bank account. :grr:

14. He still needs to keep a close eye on his credit.
I googled, and can't find any freebe's, but but I.D. theft is always a possibility. I don't want to be a downer, but be cautious.

18. Thanks for the advice...
We'll be on the lookout; but I suspect this guy was just looking for fast drug money. The fact that he bothered returning the wallet at all is good reason to question whether he's intelligent enough to figure out how to steal an identity.

5. I'm sorry :(
Was it stolen? Or did he lose it? Either way, that sucks. Hope he didn't lose too much cash. :(

You were right to cancel the cards - even if they gave them back to you physically, they still have the numbers.

16. Amen to that!
As awful as it was, I can't help thinking how lucky we are. The guy got about $400, but he didn't take my husband's guitar, and he apparently didn't know how to drive a stick shift, because he didn't take the car either. He could've come into the house, too, and threatened the kids, not to mention the fact that he could have robbed us of husband and father.

I shudder to think that his next victim may not be so fortunate...

11. They were a pain in the ass...
Wanted a picture ID...
He told them that the guy took his wallet, and that every effingthing was in it. I guess you're not supposed to keep your DL in your wallet anymore!

12. So very sorry about this, GoG...
Losing the bloody wallet is very, very tough on the nerves, no matter what the outcome.

Stay cool -- :hi:

19. Thanks KrazyKat!
It's kind of creepy to think that he'd return the wallet when it's virtually useless now. He's either just so lost in his druggie world that he thought he was being a nice criminal, or he's taunting us.

It's also odd that he'd throw it on the neighbor's porch. Why didn't he throw it in our yard? Very strange...

20. It's still safer to cancel all your accounts.
A friend of mine left her purse in a store got it back with everything in it a day later. One week after that she got a call from her CC company telling her there were almost 3500 in odd charges in two days. Someone had copied her CC account # and was having a field day.

They never caught the person who did it.

21. That was the first thing we did...
Fortunately, it was about 9:30pm when he was robbed, so there weren't many stores open. He didn't get a chance to use anything before we cancelled the accounts.

My mom had her purse stolen in Sweden a number of years ago. Despite the fact that she stopped her credit cards immediately, the thief went straight into a jewelry store and spent over a thousand dollars.
