3. I'll be bringing mine
I hope someone is nice enough to take an updated picture of me. Every time there's a "post a picture of yourself" thread, I want to post, but I refuse to post the most recent photo that I have of myself because I've lost so much weight since then.

11. Remind me what the bet was
Something about whether Sheffield would have a 'roid rage and punch a woman in the Fenway stands?

If you bet against that, you lost tonight.

12. He didn't punch a woman
Sheffield was swiped by a fan.

13. ...and swung at the fan, and missed,
and knocked over a woman standing next to the fan he was trying to punch for making incidental contact. The fan hit Sheff's cap. How do I know? Because Sheff said in an interview that the fan hit his cap.

Incidental contact.

Definitely worth knocking a woman in the stands sideways.

14. Incidental contact?
Didn't look to me like the fan was going for the ball that was a good couple of feet under his hand....rolling on the ground. Looked to me like he took a swipe at Sheffield and caught him on the side of his face.

Sheff also said he thought the guy busted his lip.

Obviously he shouldn't have swiped back, but give the man credit for controlling himself and not punching the guy and standing there and taking his insults instead.

16. Two things
1. The fan was not even looking at Sheff. Totally looking the other way, in fact, at the rolling ball. Don't know about you, but unless thius guy was a ninja, he'd probably need to be looking at someone to attack them. Sheff, it should be noted for fairness, was also looking for the ball. He was reaching for the ball as well. It was incidental contact, something that happens in a tiny band-box like Fenway.

Sheff is lucky that security guard got in there so quickly. If that guard hadn't jumped in, Sheff would be hanging out with Ron Artest for the next few weeks.

19. Half fair
I still find it slightly hard to believe that the guy was going for the ball, though. That's a low fence, but he'd have to be halfway onto the field in order to be able to reach the ground where the ball was. I've sat in those exact seats a bunch of times, and the fence isn't as low as it looks. Not to mention that he had no business interfering with a ball in fair play--this isn't foul territory down the line.

As for the second part, sheff had controlled himself and was standing there listening to the fan before the guard got there. I think it was already over. Though the guard deserves a bunch of credit anyway...good job all around, I thought.

22. Ever been to Fenway?
It's a way low porch down there. People snatch balls all the time.

How do you attack someone you're not even looking at? That's a trick I'd like to learn. :)

25. Not right there they don't
In order to answer your question, per my previous message: "I've sat in those exact seats a bunch of times, and the fence isn't as low as it looks." Granted, I didn't tend to wear a Yankee hat, but I've been to Fenway at least 30 or 40 times!

They grab balls down in the corner all the time, in foul territory, but not in fair territory--you almost never see that.

Anyway, I'm going to have to look at the footage again. From what I saw, it didn't seem obvious to me that he wasn't throwing a punch, but I could be wrong...you seem pretty sure.

15. Ok, but you implied that it was intentional
You just said otherwise.
Look, the fact is that the original fan had NO BUSINESS swiping at Sheff.
The security has GOT to be tighter then this.

The security was tight. The security, in fact, saved the next few weeks of Sheff's season.

Small park. Contact happens.

18. But it was intentional
And what of the man with the beer?
Look, it sucks if that woman got hurt, but how on earth can we blame it on Sheffield for reacting to being attacked like that by the idiot?

20. It wasn't intentional
He wasn't even looking at Sheff. He was looking at the ball.

The beer flew out of the cup held by the woman whom the other woman fell on.

Seriously, have you seen the footage of this yet? It's pretty obvious what happened.

24. I was watching it live
And it was pretty clear the fan wasn't just looking for the ball. He saw a chance to take a shot at a Yankee player.

27. OK, here's some forensics

The guy in blue is the one Sheff beefed with. What's he looking at? Not Sheff. You don't attack someone you're not looking at, unless you have ninja powers.

To his left is the woman who got knocked over.

Next to the woman who got knocked over is a second woman. See the beer in her hand.

Man's hand contacts Sheff's face (while man is not looking at him).

Sheff wigs and swings, striking woman to man's left.

Woman falls into second woman, beer in hand flies.

The prosecution rests.

:)

21. Did you ever go to Tiger Stadium?
I made a pilgrimage right before it was scrapped. Now THAT place was a bandbox. It was like you were sitting in the infield. And the upper deck was connected to the back by these neat catwalks that gave you a really unique birds-eye view.
