Do you work for 'the man'?
The last two jobs I've had have been working for 'the man'... at companies subcontracted by AOL (previous job) and Pfizer (current job). Prior to that, though, I worked for a non-profit camp for mentally handicapped, at a student-run newspaper and tutored foreign students. I have to say, I make more money and have more stability and better benefits, but I feel so much worse about what I'm contributing to society... Meh. x(

18. The Goddess of Justice, Truth and Law.
Someone guessed it here once. Per the Egyptians, she stood at the door to the afterlife with Osiris, and weighed one's heart against her ostrich feather, and then it was decided to which location one was going.

Laughing .. my hubby picked it out because I needed a new name once I graduated from law school (June 2004). Currently working on passing the Cal-Bar-Exam. Took it in Feb. Have to wait until the end of May for the results.

I help him with Hubby with his software/internet biz.

22. That's cool...
I love hearing the stories behind people's user names and sigs and stuff.

What was your name before?

25. Ha! "LawStudentMom."
Going back to law school is what every ding-a-ling ol' married ma in her 40's should do. We decided I could quit the ol' social worker job and "just do it." (law school that is).

I love hearing about the stories behind the names also.

We worked and worked, and were able to start our own business - sold that - and then started another. Working out of the house is fun - and I hope everyone gets a chance.

You end up going out to dinner (and lunch) - 'cause you get tired of your house - even if it is nice.

It doesn't work for every couple - but its perfect for us - and we get to be around for the 8-year-old (a mid-life blessing). She's pampered, though.

Hope everyone gets the job they want!

4. Nah...
You're one of the small handful of people who knows where I work. Non-profit, altruistic, and all that fun stuff. The decent pay and benefits are more because anyone in medicine these days gets it. Don't feel bad though for taking care of your family. Nothing wrong with that. :)

For money, stability, and helping people who need it. Good stuff. I really admire you and everyone who works there... I don't think I could handle it emotionally!

Society doesn't deserve your contribution anyway. I mean, just LOOK at the stupid people out there who make up "society". Bleh! Screw 'em!

Plus, you ARE doing ME good, and really, does anyone else matter? I work for a small company, not really 'man'-like, more like... I don't know, arrested adolescent perhaps... and since you work for Pfizer, who makes the Rolaids I keep in my desk drawer, you have done your duty to humankind! :P

ZW, you rock, you know? I'm glad your Rolaids keep you happy... I can get you a whole bunch at a discount, but I bet shipping would end up costing more in the end... let's just say, I have a lot of certs in my desk at work :D

Yippee. Made arrangements for the monthly debits to go to another card finally. Wasn't much on there anyway. They weren't making any money off me.

35. i have and swear i never will again.
i worked for several big construction companies, one a mega home builder and the other a civil construction firm.

i refuse to work for developers anymore. i will not be part of the homogenization of the american landscape. i will not be part of the destruction of the enviroment for rows and rows of the same overpriced houses.

the heavy construction company i worked for was a major repub contributor who threw money around and got a lot of state and govt work for their efforts. i was told during the 2000 campaign that i was responsible for getting every vendor and subcontractor i had contact with (dozens of companies) to contribute $10000 to various campaigns, i was told to make sure they knew that they had donated on their own, please don't mention our company when you send in your check. at one of our job meetings a senior vp stood up and told us that the owner of the company had promised the republican party in nj that they would deliver $100,000+ before the election.

i refused to have anything to do with it, and quit that job shortly after 9/11.

i just got laid off of a telecom job that i was growing tired of. we worked for at&t and bechtel, and our equipment came from harris corp. i was looking for a new job when i got laid off, i was tired of supporting those companies and their corporate customers.

i won't do it again. i am looking for a small local company or a company that does something with some redeeming social value. i was going to apply for paid work for habitat for humanity then read some stuff about how christian they are and it threw me a little. that's not much of an option, either.
