I just took my cats to the Vet. What a trauma.
On the way to the vet in the car, they were both meowing up a storm. Then Noah Pukes and poops in the carrying case. The rest of the way he has big gobs of saliva hanging from his mouth. We get to the vet, they cleaned out the case, and he continues whining. Poor baby!

Noah the Puker

Things go great at the Vet-they're both healthy. Reno wants to hang around and check out the dogs in the waiting room. He's fearless, and a visit to the vet's is an adventure.

On the way home, Noah pees and pukes in the carrying case. He is now wedged under a piece of furniture so I can't grab him and give him a bath. He still had saliva dripping from his mouth when we got home. Poor kitty is really freaked out!

I think I'm going to find out if there's a local vet who does housecalls. I feel so bad disrupting Noah's little world....

2. Wow!
I wonder why he's so traumatized! I've never had a cat who did either on the way to the vet. If you can't get a vet that does housecalls, is there some way you can get some happy cat meds into him before the trip?

Sounds like an awful mess. I think I'd just throw the carrier out.

3. My cat freaks out when we put her in the carrying case
She bangs her little nose up against it and meows. She even cut her nose on it once. :(

4. My cat does the same thing.. or used to...
My Cat Jesco used to do the same thing in his carrier, beg and cry to be let out and then barf/poop. I'm thinking it's related to the cat being a pound rescue kitty as Jess has only been to the vet a grand total of twice in his lifetime (he's an indoor cat and has never had a health problem).

However, I do go on vacation every once in a while, and it's too much for my parents and friends to drive out to the sticks to house sit every day. So, Jess has gotten used to being dropped off for a playdate at my folk's place once or twice a year.

This past month, I went down to Orlando for an extended week at the theme parks, and Jess had his first commute without soiling his carrier. Progress!

5. One of my six dogs is like that.
He can only go about a mile or two before he pukes. He is so predictable that way. His two brothers LOVE riding around with me.

6. Some vets will prescribe a mild tranquilizer for pets that react that way.
Of course, a vet who makes housecalls would be much nicer.

7. My sister's vet told her to keep the cat carrier out
with toys in it so her cat thinks it's part of the furniture and isn't afraid to go in it. It makes taking Aphrodite to a the vet a lot easier!

8. Your cat will allow you to BATHE him?
I wouldn't even have the courage to try that with our cat!

Your Noah will be OK in a few hours. He just needs his "space" right now -- and time to plot his revenge.

9. Noah is sweet-he's not the vengeful type. Reno on the other hand....
yells at me when I've been away, and tries to wake me up during the night as payback.

21. I think someone told our cat . . .
before we adopted him, that he doesn't have to tolerate baths, cheap cat food, birds and mice in his territory, or inattentiveness of any sort from his humans. And he holds our feet to the fire.

10. I had this happen years ago with my old cat Oreo.
Edited on Fri Apr-15-05 09:36 AM by fudge stripe cookays
I never had money for a petsitter, and had to drive from Dallas to Austin to visit my mom, so I had to take her with me for the weekend.

And I learned quickly that she got horribly carsick from both ends.

After that, it was kitty valium for her on trip days.

Her nibs, my Pooh, with my estranged older brother and bear claw slippers
RIP October 2003

18. Thanks.
She was the funniest cat I'd ever had. Always trying to steal food!

1. One night, I was indulging in fast food in front of TV (sitting at coffee table, nice and low), and she got right up under my arm and ran off with a handful of fries!

2. Another night, I had just moved into my duplex, and had gone to get some Greek food (eating on the floor because I didn't have any of my furniture yet). The phone rang, so I walked over aways to get it. Suddenly I see her take off like a bat out of hell across the dining room, with my long hunk of souvlaki hanging out one side of her mouth. I was laughing so hard I couldn't discipline her.

3. A few weeks later, I had had a Subway sub, with chips for dinner in the LR, and was in the bedroom writing to reprehensor. I kept hearing "crackle crackle." "Oree, knock it off!" I yelled a couple times. The noise didn't stop. So I finalyl went out to the LR to investigate. She'd decided to sample what was left of the potato chips, gotten her head stuck in the bag, and was backing up around the LR with the bag on her head. I about wet myself laughing.

4. A few weeks after that, middle of the night, I hear various scratching and naughty sounds coming from the kitchen. I walked towards the kitchen, looked, and she had gotten inside my bullet shaped flip-lid trashcan and her head praire-dogged out the top.

She was relentless in the pursuit of belly-filling items.
I miss The Pooh. Molly is just not as affectionate or funny.

20. My kitty Reno is also relentless in his search for food
if I'm lifting my fork to my mouth, he grabs my hand with his paw so he can smell (and maybe sample) what I'm eating.

Pooh was a fun kitty. How old was she when she died? Poor baby!

Oree had a good life. She was around 15 or 16. It was her time.

Yeah, Reno is hilarious. I have never had a cat who is so talkative, or pushy.

13. Poor babies! Glad they're both OK, though.
Au contraire, Chloe aka FatCat was beautifully behaved when she went to get her op stitches out today, even though they'd scabbed over and it must have been uncomfortable for her.

Most interesting vet trip we ever took was when Noir the House Bunny had bad digestion problems. We took him to the emergency vets in a taxi and half way there he let go of this megafart. Problem solved.

Luckily the cab driver had a sense of humour.

14. aah. i have a fun story about a shih tzu puppy and
friday afternoon traffic during peak tourist time in the summer, bumper to bumper on interstate 95, going through N.H. to Maine with the puppy pukin' in the "carrier". I won't get into further detail on what the puppy kept doing after she initially puked. ewww. :puke:
My sister decided she wanted the puppy with her in Portland after all, where she was visitin her in-laws. I had to drive the puppy from Nashua, NH to Portland.

He sounds like my cat Hepburn.

My parents have a house-call vet for their *insane* cat and they've been really pleased with how that's gone. Good luck! :hi:

26. I can't find a mobile vet in the city and one of the suburban house-call
vets won't come here. the reason? No parking! x(

I just know I won't put poor Noah through this next year. It's too traumatic. He's sleeping now-the stress did him in.
