Are name tags a good idea for the Boston Gathering, or just stupid?
Since there's going to be so many of us, maybe name tags would be a good idea?

Input appreciated!

5. That's what I was going to do
it's nice to put user names/real names and faces together.

Of course, we'll have to have 'special' nametags for some people...

Too bad Treasonous Bastard won't be there - he makes the best nametags with neat-o democrat slogans on them.

You have a massive party on your hands with folks coming in from out-of town, nametags will help folks put the screenname to the face. If you do nametags - do the Screen Name and First name.

it doesn't say Redstone on it. But it does have a picture of me, so at least that will help you recognize me without having to look at my face, won't it?

Never mind.

17. Uh, this makes me sound really stupid, because it
actually is pretty stupid, but I want to re-confirm that the name of the place is King's, right, and the hotel across the street is the Back Bay Hilton?

The original thread with that info is in the archives somewhere.

22. Sorry, I've always hated "name tagged" events...
besides, I'm sure most of us will recognize each other any ways, and if they don't...why bother.

We don't need to make this that controlled, do we?

28. We'll how about just having a sign up sheet or something...
Or a large piece of board where everyone can check in, and maybe post a picture of themselves?

And then, if anyone gets confused they can consult the board.

Just my 2 cents.

33. Absolutely... It's A Great Idea.
It puts everyone at ease and not having to worry about making awkward apologies at having forgotten someone's name (even after being introduced just moments ago). It makes it easier for people to initiate conversations if they already "know" the person's name. No need to wait for an introduction.

We even wear name tags at our family reunions! The youngsters and teens change so much that they hardly look like the same person from a year ago. I guess the same can be said for many of the adults too. But mostly, it's just that we see each other so infrequently, that it's difficult to associate a name with the face.

So if it's good for families (who are "supposed" to know each other by sight) then it's entirely appropriate for folks who only know each other by a screen name.

Go for it! Have fun! Send photos!

35. I think you should consider credentials!
If I were able to join you, I would DEFINITELY create credentials as my contribution. Much better than a name tag because it hangs and it's kind of a keepsake from the occassion. My job has allowed me to acquire a ton of them and it's fun to look back at all the events.

Damn I wish I could be there.

Carry on.
