5. Heaven's Gate. Hale-Bopp.
First, many of the male members of his cult castrated themselves.

Then, they killed themselves - in a MANSION, as Lewis Black would scream - and timed their departure to fit with the arrival of the Hale-Bopp comet.

Google "Marshall Applewhite" and you'll find all sorts of data.

I think you are high, but that is funny as hell.

On edit: I just remembered...They took quarters with them so they could make phone calls. But still..LOL, the way you put that cracked me up.

11. What about Rev. Moon, without whom the Christian Right would have nothing?
Even though they disparage and decry against "cults" they as sure as hell suck at the teat of Moon's Holy Pecker.

19. Sorry, I couldn't think of a better way to say that.
So I just went with the best I could do (which, as you noticed, wasn't very good).

26. Wow. What happened there?
They were merely fussing about how some celebrity $c1ent010gists (Kirstie Alley in particular) were testifying against psychiatric drugs being used for children's behavioral problems.

Looks like I missed an hour or so of good flaming. Oh, well.

28. Really? it was the Kirstie Alley thread that got deleted?
Must have turned into an awful flame war thread. I can't imagine that just posting the fact that she was testifying against the use of drugs for children is enough to get deleted.

But, since it's been deleted, there's no way to know what happened.

16. David Koresh
Gotta root for "the home team" here - Jim Jones was manipulative, delusional, drunk with power, and a blatant liar and fraud - but he never immolated himself Gotterdammerung-style like Koresh did. Jones shot himself in the mouth rather than drink the poison punch like all his followers were forced to do.
