Man And His Sister Charged With Felony Incest

A brother and sister have been charged with felony incest after Jefferson County deputies found them having sex earlier this month in Trafford, officials said.

Ronald Stewart Howze, 44, of Trafford and Lori Ann Rotton, 41, of Smyrna, Ga., remain jailed, with bond set at $50,000 each. Rotton makes her first court appearance in the case Thursday. Howze appeared in court last week to get a lawyer and returns in May for a preliminary hearing, records show. If convicted, they face up to 10 years in prison.

Authorities said Howze's wife telephoned deputies and, when they arrived, pointed them to a home in the 2300 block of Gurley Road on April 7 just after midnight. A deputy saw the siblings having intercourse in the wife's bedroom.

The deputy asked Howze to stop, get dressed and step outside, said Sgt. Randy Christian, spokesman for the sheriff's office. The deputy opened the door after a minute and saw they had not stopped, Christian said.

"At that point (Howze) stopped and stated, `I guess I'm going to jail,'" Christian said.

The siblings told authorities they knew they were related and confirmed that they were having sex, Christian said, reading from the incident report. Both had been drinking.

Howze was arrested and Rotton, who appeared to be highly intoxicated, was taken to a hospital and treated for excessive alcohol, Christian said, citing the report. She was charged later.

Howze said in his statement that a doctor had given him a "death warrant."

"He had been told he had cancer and planned to go out crazy," Christian said.

Both denied having sex with each other before that night, and Rotton said she had not been raped, Christian said.

sure, it is repellant what they did, but do they deserve to go to jail. certainly their eternal shame should be punishment enough.

but here in SC multiple counts of domestic violence are still only considered misdemeanors and maybe 60 days in jail but usually just monetary damage. How sentences are awarded or thought up I have no idea.

this is one fucked up society. having consensual sex (ok, sick and wrong consensual sex) is MUCH worse than domestic violence. and in many cases, drug possession carries a stiffer fine than killing someone with your car when you're drunk.

I honestly do not think these people should go to jail. They should have their pictures posted up and ridiculed, but not jailed.

This is so very, very disgusting that I am at a loss for words.

Rapists & child molesters get less time than drug offenders and people like this.

Not my life. They weren't harming anybody. Just having an affair with his own sister. Ew. I don't know why they put them in jail. He wasn't raping her or anything like that. It's gross to think about because it's incest but whatever suits your fancy.

On the one hand, it IS illegal, and disgusting, and I'm sure it is illegal for a reason. But on the other hand, they appear to be consenting adults.... 10 years semms harsh. Fines? Probation? 6 months in jail maybe? 10 years is a little ridiculous.

neither of these people are going to have many dates in the future, after their family disowns them and their spouses divorce them.

They will NEVER live it down. Putting people in jail will not prevent this crime. The only prevention is the natural disgust most of us will feel.

Their spouses will divorce them; their families will cut off all contact; they'll have to move, living in fear for the rest of their lives that someone will find out.

Putting them on trial seems like a waste of time and money. So would prison. Fining them would be petty and pointless.

This does stretch the limit of adult consensual sex, but....

It's repulsive, but with jail overcrowding is locking these people up a good use of money and resources? Perhaps the judge should just order them NOT to capitalize on it with an appearance on the Jerry Springer show!

An older friend of mine has a daughter who attended high school with Julia. I think her daughter was a couple of years younger but took some AP English courses with her. My friend said that her daughter came home with wild stories about the essays Julia would write for class, and said that she seemed to be a very dramatic girl.

Usually these thing turn out to be in Michigan for some reason. No offence, but I'm kind of glad that, for once, it wasn't.
