1. Bathtub Marys?
Edited on Thu Apr-21-05 06:47 PM by Bunny
They've been in every good Catholic's lawn since time began. I've been threatening to get one for my Ma, she says she will kill me if I do. And she is a VERY devout Catholic.

Now your neighbor needs to bury the tub vertically, about halfway down. Then they'll have a true Bathtub Mary.

They've been around for ages - I remember seeing them in my neighborhood when I was growing up. See my edit above, though. Your neighbor has to partially bury the tub.

5. I kinda like it... at least they're recycling.
It's religious kitsch.

At least they don't have a toilet flowerpot in the front yard (that I can see)!!

Obviously you've never been to Rhode Island
And that area of Massachusetts. There's one every other house in some neighborhoods.

19. Or a lot of Connecticut; or Pennsylvania;
anywhere there are old-school Italians, Mary will be in the tub, out in the yard.

Bathtub Marys

Bathtub Mary's are perfect no matter what denomination you are. To give Mary a Safe Haven, many have taken an old Bathtub (from remodeling or the junk yard) cut it in half, and then submerge if over top the Cement Mother of Jesus figures head! At Mardi Gras, we hang some beads over the top for a jovial feeling. Please use utmost care in sawing your bathtub in half. This "Honor" is to be only used for Religious lawn ornaments,
it's simply too regal for a yard gnome.

15. I've never seen anything like this before
I laughed out loud. A co-worker came over (a Catholic) and laughed too.

A house down the street does have a Mary statue with some potted plants around it.
