4. Am I an oldbee yet?
Um, what I wish wasn't true... Once, I was very very clueless when this guy came up to me in Tower Records, asking me which Beatles album I'd recommend. It flew over my head that he was flirting, and I berated him for never having listened to the Beatles. Man, I wish that'd never happened...

149. uhmmm which Tower was that??
Because I had a similar thing happen with a hot hippie goth girl, that probably had Rubber Soul and Abbey Road already.

My fellow fucked up Tower employees (yes quite literally and constantly) clued me in later when one asked me if I had gotten a date. To vindicate myself I asked Kristy Yamaguchi if she'd like to go out sometime the very next day. As she was perusing the classical section no less... It was a great moment and the best refusal I ever had until my dickheaded supervisor Don asked her for an autograph (the 5th one he'd gotten from her at the store!!) as she was still thanking me politely.

Sorry to go so OT but Tower brings back memories like college does for others.

the lyrics, but all the notes as well. I became a Beatles junkie in 1963-64, and it's continued to this day. Still listen to their CD's in the car.

'Cuz I can tell you from experience, those people are frickin' bonkers. They try to get you to hate gay people you don't even know, while people are out of work, lack health insurance, and our service men and women are being killed and maimed in an illegal war. And then they turn young enlisted people into torturers, and when they get busted, throw them to the dogs. While the top rankers who ordered/instigated the atrocities, come out smelling like a rose. As I've said before, Clinton looks like a Boy Scout compared to Bushco. Fuck those bastards. And one other thing that made me change my views, is how can you call yourself a Christian, and be so full of hate? What's wrong with this picture?

93. 911 had a lot to do with it
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 09:31 AM by libhill
I was 100% in favor of bombing the hell out of Afghanistan at the time, because it was held that Bin Laden was operating out of that country. But I also followed developments in Iraq, and it was obvious to me that something wasn't right. Iraq had nothing to do with 911, I'm convinced that was nothing but a set up for an oil grab. And the revelations about Gitmo, and Abu Ghraib, the deaths of civilians in Iraq, when nothing was being done to capture Osama. It went on and on, and I realized I was backing the wrong horse. Not to mention all of the gay bashing. I'm not gay, but with this country going to hell in a hand basket, I'll be damned if they'll get me to hate people I don't even know because of a sexual preference I may not agree with. There are more important things going on in the world. Also, see my other post, # 65 I think it was. Have a good day.

Tikki is actually two folks; the Mr. and me....
We picked the name Tikki because that is the name of our doggie (A call out to Mitzi)....and we figured we wouldn't forget our user name that way.

We have been DU members for over two years now...

We have been noticing more of the oldbies back posting on DU...excellent!!
And we welcome all the Newbie posters....thanks for taking the time to share your
thoughts and interests and ideas...

I usually spend my DU time in the down and dirty political forums, but haven't visited much for the last couple of months.

What do I wish wasn't true? That I've felt so burned out on politics since Chimpy's coronation.

I survived the primary wars on DU and I'm still here. :)

I wish I hadn't lost my faith in the political process of our country. I've become so damned cynical it seems it doesn't matter what party a politician belongs to anymore. None of them care about the little guy and what they need from their government to have a good life.

59. I have a really bad temper
which I keep under control. I have the kind of temper that doesn't result in any shouting...I will calmly and with no hesitation just tear someone apart with words...sometimes in a mocking tone... I have been known to make people cry when I get in a really pissy mood.

There are people who are literally afraid of me, including some politicians who have seen me in action.

Here on DU I try to behave myself.

I have been here since the beginning (early 2001) when my mom called me to tell me about this site.

80. You also know me.
Also a liberal with a little dog. What I wish wasn't true? Hard question. I wish that I was younger, more optimistic and not so damn scared of the future. The more I hear, the more scared I become. And things just seem to become worse.

I woke up on 9/11. I had a dentist appointment. I knew something really terrible had happened, but I always run late, so I knew few details. And I sat there, hostage in the dentist's chair, for what seemed like forever, seeing that second plane, on the TV, hitting the North Tower, over and over and over. I was weak in the knees by the time I walked out of my dentist's office, into a lovely September day, believing that the world was about to end. I had voted Democrat, starting with my hero, Jimmy Carter, but I was determined, since that terrifying day, to learn what was really going on in this country and the world. And I have and I'm more scared than ever. So now I'm here and grateful to have found kindred spirits, but just do not get why the entire country is not condemning an administration, asleep at the switch, who could allow this to happen, and the horrible acts that they've perpetrated, ever since.*sigh*

Yes, DU is just the best. I sure wouldn't have survived the last election without it. I almost didn't, anyway.:-(

I wish that you hadn't quit grad school, either, since it seems to me that this is where your heart and interest lie. Could you go back? Or go back, studying a less intense subject? This is what you must decide, what you feel and what you have to do to be happy. And I'm here, anytime, if you want to talk.

And I certainly understand about the election. No wonder you got off-track. I was totally blindsided and shocked and felt like I had been kicked in the stomach. I would not have survived, if it hadn't been for DU. I don't know if you were here, but they had two forums, I forget the exact names, but I think they were "help and support" and "anger and vitriol." I constantly accessed the former, but also had friends who were suffering. We all had such hopes. So I completely understand.;(

I thank DU for being here, as well. It's the best place on the web. And I'm so glad you found us, as well. And that we managed to cross paths.:-)

155. No way on God's green earth!
Well, maybe I'd consider it, if you held my hand the entire time. What you're planning does sound like a good program, a toe back into the water.:-)

It might benefit me to return to school, since I never did find a real vocation, but I have attended 10 schools in my life, five in my first five years of school, and it was rough. Either my parents had me change schools, from private to public, and back again, or we moved. Not a great experience for a kid. So I preferred working to grad school, like I planned.

But you seem much happier in school, and should do it, if you feel you're ready. What I meant was that we both have to take life one step at a time.

160. Well, I'm not John Lennon... or a Saudi prince. LOL!
But going back to school would be much more intimidating, to me, than working. And isn't that the ultimate goal of school, anyway, to find a rewarding job? But only you can know what will make you happy. If you're more comfortable in school, by all means, return. You have time to decide on your vocation. Maybe you could just do each, part-time, if you can find the right match-up, without stressing yourself.

Bleeding liberal driven further to the left by the idiocy, lunacy, ignorance and instransigence of the present cacique (term for Latin American strong man in power.) I love DU even lately with all the stupidity taking place in GD. We seem to be attracting more freeper lurkers everyday but I guess that is okay because it means they are getting scared.

About me...well I am an educator and administrator in a major school district outside of Dallas. I detest NCLB. I live now for one thing, my family. I am a cancer survivor and a typical type A personality trying to become less so. It's difficult. I jog at least 3 times a week and I am trying to lose 20 pounds the old fashioned way, less input, more output. :)

Been around since 12/2002-1/2003.

What I wish weren't true about me:
I wish I could shake the horrible feeling that this country is done for. It's been overrun by right-wing fanatics, "me-firsters" and religious zealots who were once a laughingstock, but they now hold the reins. And they aren't about to let go.

*Every* time I think about the state of things, and the probabilities for the future, I get very depressed and angry. Sadly, I think that that's an appropriate response to what's going on, but I do not like feeling that way. I have the nagging feeling that I will be battling this until the day I die -- that I will not live long enough to see this country free again.

The story has a happy ending, though: I got the help I needed and the perpetrator was put behind bars.

I really really really wish we didn't have this President and the scummy GOP leadership. That's why I'm working my butt off to see a change in every election, starting with Boards of Selectmen and School Boards. It's my life now!

I don't post often in the Lounge now but that may change. I was fortunate to meet a number of DUers last year...exactly one year ago today...at the Women's March in DC. I love the information and the shared values we exchange here. Keep up the great work!

I think I may be ts/tg so that is why I said that. I played with tonka trucks, and played baseball, basketball, soccer, and anything else that involved bouncing balls when I was little and climbed trees. I'm attracted to women, but I don't look at it the same way many other lesbians see it, so it does make me wonder. I do have <some> female like qualities physically, but all my interests are usually associated with men's hobbies and I think more like men on a lot of levels.

176. Ok let's get serious here... sort of
You may be TG or maybe you are just one of those really cool masculine lesbians. Only you will ever know.

I'm not particularly femme but I never used the word "man" to describe myself until recently and I'm almost 40. I spent a lot of years thinking I might be TG , even sometimes hoping I was, but I'm not. (I'd still love trying to be a woman, if I could switch back when I wanted to.)

Gender is such bullshit! (But fun if you treat it like a game or a sex toy.)

Read Gender Outlaw by Kate Bornstein - a man who became a woman - it's very enlightening. Or some of Patrick Califia's more recent books - a woman who became a man - he speaks intelligently about his life and his transition from dyke to gay man.

There are alternatives - Della Grace for example. A wonderful photographer. She eventually chose somewhere in between male and female. She hasn't spoken a lot about it, but her art changed with her change.

Anyway, whatever your ultimate decision you are among friends - there are a surprising number of TG and TG-positive people here.

And don't worry if you don't match every other lesbian in the world - why should you? You are you, unique!

Do what is right for you, Jama, and makes you happy.

Khash.
