Go and see "Downfall", better yet, take a borderline Freep
This German film covers Hitler's last ten days or so. I have never seen a better depiction of what unquestioning devotion to a leader can do to a people, or more importantly, individuals. It illustrates what can happen to people like us when the fascists see the writing on the wall. Oh, and the acting is superb and the accuracy in costumes, props and art direction is phenominal.

1. This is one of the all-time great films. It is totally compelling.
I totally endorse everything you said. In addition, there is a main character not listed in the credits, the Russian Army. Much of the action is driven by the Nazi elite's realization that the Russians are indeed coming, and coming fast. When I realized this, the film was all the more enjoyable. This is a good object lesson to tyrants. Your day will come and it will be an awful reckoning.

A certain "must see!" And agree 100% w/you. This is a significant lesson for all. And it will be worse when one is use to so certain freedoms.

... but I was sidetracked to see Schultze Gets the Blues last weekend instead.

Auch ein deutsches film, es war sehr gut, aber ein bischen dunkel.
