Chilli bown finger woman charged with grand larceny
Finger of suspicion falls on woman
By Tim Reid
A complaining restaurant customer has been accused of making up a bizarre money-making story

A WOMAN who claimed to have bitten into a severed finger lurking in a bowl of chilli at a Wendy’s fast-food restaurant was arrested and charged with grand larceny and attempted grand larceny yesterday amid suspicions that she lied to make money.

In the latest twist to a case that has left much of America feeling distinctly queasy and the giant Wendy’s food chain with a public relations nightmare, Anna Ayala was arrested at her home in Las Vegas after both police and the fast-food company found no credible link between the finger and the restaurant.

Ms Ayala went on ABC’s Good Morning America on March 22 to claim that while eating a bowl of Wendy’s chilli in San Jose, California, on March 22, she bit into a 1½-inch fingertip, apparently a woman’s, complete with a “well manicured” nail.

As a result, she was suffering from sleeping and eating disorders, she said.

2. But they've checked
Edited on Sat Apr-23-05 09:35 AM by tammywammy
all the Wendy's employees hands, and no one's missing a finger. Even way back to the meat processing plant.

I read somewhere that she had a relative that died recently and they thought that she took the finger off the dead person. (ewww) But I'm not sure if that's true.

Edited to add here's a link to a story saying "the search warrant alleged the family might have obtained the finger from a dead relative."

3. abuse of power?
serial litigator "finds" a severed finger in her food.

restaurant and suppliers are investigated and all digits are accounted for.

woman threatened to sue but quickly drops the case.

is this not suspicious???

5. dude, if they arrested her
the DA thinks he has a solid case. DA's never, NEVER, want lose a high profile case and they will not move until they have seen solid proof.

7. They probably do have a case for libel, filing a false police report, etc.

11. making an arrest to question her is only a first step.
you don't need 100% proof to arrest someone, and it's not an abuse of power to arrest someone on whom reasonable suspicion has fallen.

it sounds like the next step is exhumation of the recently departed relative and/or dna analysis to attempt to link the finger to the woman one way or another.

i would think an arrest and questioning would be a reasonable first step to give the woman an opportunity to confess first and also to gather further evidence to support a search and exhumation order.

8. Most likely they can say this finger was not cooked.
So, she had to put it in there.

15. I have it from unnamed unreliable sources....
The finger was marinaded in chili sauce for some time.

I can see the reminder note on the refrigerator now:

"DON'T EAT THE CHILI!"

9. I'm not a supporter of Wendy's but I feel for the employees
who have been laid off or had their hours cut--these people are in many cases, "The working poor" and this serial litigator is now crying crocidile tears. I agree that they must have a good case against her--espcially if rumors are true that the finger belonged to a recently deceased relative that she snipped off.

10. This lady has a track record of frivolous law suits
It's painfully obvious she is a con artist. Whether they have enough evidence on her to charge her with anything, I don't know, but it all seems made up to me. I'd be interested to know if she knows anybody at the local coroner's office to see if she is getting some body parts from her "friend." Seems extremely suspicious to me.

14. LOL... "Eating Disorders!"
She claimed to have eating disorders...

Sheesh, we're in for the new "Finger Food Diet".

Simple diet though... Imagine a body part appearing
in the dish you're about to eat.

:puke:

On another note... Seeing how grasping and greedy
this woman is alleged to be. I'm putting my money
on the finger coming from the dead relative when
she yanked some ring off of the deceased body.

Or maybe another relative got the ring and she
"got the finger".

LOL... I made a funny!

:)
