Any guys here do Yoga?
I'm not sure if guys workout & womens workout to yoga is the same (beginner here) I'm looking for a decent book &/or dvd on Yoga for beginners. Went to Borders & there are SO MANY to choose from. I just want the basics for now. I here its great for relieving stress, that its very relaxing & a great way to stay in shape. 've always wanted to try yoga & think now with spring coming I am ready to take the plunge. Before I sign up for classes or anything I thought I'd try it at home for a while.

So, anyone here do yoga & if so, any advice? Thanks all!

1. Just started a couple months ago--
I actually would suggest a class first. If the teacher is good, you will get a better idea of the routines and what you should be aiming for. I'm holding off on books until I become a little more accustomed to the basics. That's what works for me anyway.

And for what it's worth, Yoga is absolutely wonderful.

2. Yes, I have practiced yoga for about 10 years
I'm also studying to be a teacher (my program begins in January). I would recommend books/DVDs by Rodney Yee. I like his teaching style. You might also try checking out some from your local library (if they have some) - that way you can see different teaching styles before making a commitment. Some stores that sell yoga videos also rent them, so check that option out too.

I like Judith Lasiter's stuff as well. There are lots of good teachers out there. Pick up a copy of Yoga Journal magazine and you can find lots of ads in there. There's some criticism about YJ, but I think it's a good place to start for a beginning student and it's not a big investment.

Enjoy your classes! I hope you find it as rewarding and fulfilling as I have. :hi:

4. Yes, I've done Yoga since I was 15.
Get something printed by a reputable Yoga Institute, or by the Theosophical Society. There are too many bad half baked Yoga books out there, written by new age novices. It's best to go to source material, written by people who know what they're talking about.
