I just fell asleep at my desk and snored.
Lesson learned: Don't take Xanax and Ritalin simultaneously. It's either that or the anxiety has gone to putting me asleep again.

I snored at work. I apologized to my cell mate and she said "don't be embarrassed, I'm used to it, my husband snores."

Someone suggested I go home but -- how the hell am I going to go home if I can't drive!?

4. Back in the 'olden days' we had desk blotters
instead of keyboards. Softer on the cheek and MUCH more absorbent!

3. the little feller at the cubicle across the hall just farted
he was standing up and it just ripped - long and loud, so he sat down in his squeaky chair and tried to cover up the sound by squeaking some more.

I tried to keep a straight face but ended up blowing coffee out through my nose just now . . .

5. Can you take
another Ritalin? If your dose is small it might not hurt, narcoleptics often take big doses of the stuff.

6. Well... I get off work in 75 minutes. If it makes me sleepier, do you
think I can work it off by then?

9. Ritalin making you sleepier?
I take it for narcolepsy so I had no idea it would make someone sleepy.

10. Well, then, I guess it must just be the anxiety making me drop off.
I'm in my 3d day of an attack. I took 4 Xanax Saturday, 4 Sunday, and two today, one just after lunch w/ the Ritalin. Since I'd never taken them together I assumed the combination is what knocked me out. What do I know?

Narcolepsy must be scary, MR. :scared:

11. No it isn't too bad
and easily controlled with the Ritalin. The worst part is the cataplexy that happens sometimes. I have had it since I was 16 so I have learned to deal with it and it is not too bad.

13. Not bad, really you just learn
how to deal. Could it be the other drugs making you sleepy? In adults Ritalin works to keep you awake instead of the way it works in children. Could it simply be anxiety? Do me a favor and do not drive home if you still feel this way. Could Mrs.V pick you up? Could you get a ride to a bus or call a taxi? I know you live out a ways. What about a close hotel? Seriously, falling asleep at work is not usual for you is it? Do something but do not drive your car. Please? Double shots of espresso? Red Bull? It may increase your anxiety but at least you will be safer.

14. Yeah, I'm loading up on the coffee.
I promise to pull off the road if I am falling asleep. Been there too many times not to be smart. I'll find a busy grocery store parking lot w/ plenty of lights and take a nap.

Thanks for your kindness! Don't worry. I will be smart!

17. oh my! Have you tried adderol? (not sure about the spelling)
I've heard it is better for ADD than ritalin.

19. Not yet. This is an experiment.
I take two drugs for depression but damned if I can concentrate on anything. The Ritalin is brand new, prescribed last week by my psychiatrist. It's working so far but we'll see. Thanks for the thought!

24. I also take antidepressants.
I took Nortriptyline (Pamelor)(spelling?) which is an older tryciclic for about 8 years. I couldn't read a book, I couldn't remember anything! I had no opinions. You couldn't piss me off if you tried! I became VERY apolitical. It was so NOT ME! but, I wasn't depressed any more so I just thought: This is the price I must pay for feeling better. It started to show up in my work because I couldn't remember anything! I finally switched to Desipramine and my memory improved dramatically. The depression stayed away, but I got a little of my old self back. I have opinions now and ever since shrub stole the first election, I've put politics back on high priority. I still can't read as much as I used to...it's like I just can't get that excited about a book and my mind is not nearly as sharp...I was pretty smart.( lack of ignorance can lead to lack of bliss!) Now I feel average! And I've been thinking about taking something for ADD since I feel like that is what my condition (as a result of the anti-depressants) is most like. I do have xanax as needed for anxiety and I am concerned about what I may be able to take for ADD that won't leave me edgy. Adderol seems to have initial edgy side affects that taper off after several days. So I'm considering that. That's why I asked. I wish you well with finding the right combination that will give you a feeling of normalcy in the face of having to take these medications. I can definitely relate! :pals:

27. Did you gain weight on nortriptyline?
I did. Not that I needed help in that department.

My currents are Cymbalta (new, in the SSRI family), Neurontin (in large doses it's for seizures), and now Ritalin. My current Xanax Rx is only for flying, and I'm almost out. Hope to see the psych. this week.

I hate the stereotype that you suck if you take antidepressants. True that stereotype has lessened in recent years, but it's still there and it sux.

The saddest thing about mental medications is what schizophrenics go through. No creativity, no highs, no lows, no life on the drugs. Absolute chaos without the drugs. (I know, a generalization.)

A cube-neighbor of mine at another job used to snore while snoozed daily. I didn't find it distracting... I considered it free entertainment. :hi:

fulfilling the need until I can get back on stage. :7
