Director Kevin Smith calls Revenge of the Sith F-ing Awesome
Kevin Smith, director of such films as "Clerks," and "Dogma," saw a digital projection of the film Revenge of the Sith, and has called it fucking awesome. He calls this film 1000 times darker than Empire Strikes Back, and that the movie is so satisfyingly tragic it is like watching "Othello" or "Hamlet."

Check out his review, and be warned there are spoilers aplenty, and the typical Kevin Smith language.

1. It would have to be.
I have high hopes just because most movies with tragic endings always seem better than happy endings.

That's not to say sad endings will always be better. But "Empire" is certainly the strongest entry in the series, and much of that is due to the darker tone.

PG-13 Revenge of the Sith. Awesome. Also, has anyone noticed the distinct parallels between the first two entries and the first two made? Probably not saying anything new.

2. Empire Strikes Back somewhat overrated
Edited on Wed Apr-27-05 09:26 PM by SkipNewarkDE
While Empire Strikes Back is my favorite Star Wars film, I do think it is rather overrated, primarily because the film really has no ending or resolution. Yeah, I know, middle chapter, blah blah blah. But I think it is just incredibly episodic, lacking the tight narrative of the first film, as everything goes off in different directions, and then, surprise, no resolution. Ugh.

Still a great movie, though, I mean, I loved it.

3. I see your points and agree
I have never found it overrated myself. It does show up on a lot of "best movies" lists now that I think about it, though. Plus the lack of real resolution for the movie itself.

But it does have the classic "I am your father" line. I wish I could remember what it was like not knowing Vader was Luke's father. Damn, it's cool.
