It's official, I guess I'm a Deist.
Raised Catholic, 14 years of Catholic school with major conflicts between what organized religions say and what organized religions do. After the events of the past few weeks and finishing the book Under the Banner of Heaven (about Mormons, that's another whole issue on it's own) I have come to the conclusion that the world is full of false prophets and who am I to try to decipher who is real or not. I'm just not smart enough, sooooooooooo.
Enough of Institutions. I officially declare myself a free thinking person and Deist. LOL, I'm sure God understands.
I've always thought like this but now I can putt a name to it. Only took 51 years.

2. Are you sure you're a Deist?
A Deist doesn't believe in a personal god, just one who created the universe and then let it run on its own. If you still believe in a personal god -- one who intervenes in the universe -- then you're not a Deist. Not believing in the profits or the bible just means you're not a Jew or Christian; but you still may be a monotheist who believes in a personal god. Just checking. :-)

Also, this is a good post. You should post this in the "Religion and Theology" forum. It'll stay up there for a while and generate some good conversation; here, it'll just die in a little bit.

Sorry -- I like religious conversations. It's an interest of mine. :-)

4. Definitly a Deist...........
I don't think God runs around answering special prayers or intervenes. All I have to do is look at the current state of the world to know that getting directly involved is not a priority. Whether or not he does when we really screw up I don't know.

3. I've heard alot about "Under the Banner of Heaven"............
I look forward to reading it. Have you read any of Jon Krakauer's other books, because I'm a big fan. I strongly recommend "Into Thin Air".

Congrats on the revelation. It takes some folks their whole lives to figure it out, so your ahead of the curve!

5. He's a great writer and........
"Into Thin Air" is on my list.
His book really drove home that the human species is capable of believing just about anything.
