Another day working with morans
Both my co-workers and our customers, I'm afraid. :banghead:

Background - I run a wine and liquor department at a grocery store. So today, I'm on my knees in the booze aisle, I'm wearing an apron, I have a loaded dolly next to me, and I'm putting booze on the shelf. So some customer walks up to me and asks, "Do you work here?" :wtf:

Later, I'm in the back room, when one of the checkers (ditzy as ditzy can be) calls for me over the loudspeaker - "Skygazer, can I see you on checkstand 5 for a customer service?"

So I walk all the way up to the front of the store where she tells me, "Your liquor markdowns are driving me crazy." I needed to drop everything and hurry to the front for THAT? She could have had me call her - that's ALL she had to say!

The liquor markdowns are driving ME crazy as well. I recently had my beer set re-done and they discontinued a bunch of stuff. I loaded it all into a cart, put price tags on it all and hung a sign that says, "Discontinued beer, half price, priced as marked". All day, people have been asking me, "So it's half of what the price marked on it is?" :grr: Yes, I finally changed the sign.

I love retail.........

1. the last one is the fault of stores
I go shopping and see these "Bargin Items" that are Labeled 50% off. When you get to the register you find out the price has already been discounted to 50% and that the item is exactly the price it shows.

7. That's why I wrote "Priced as marked"
I thought that was fairly self-explanatory but I grossly overestimated my clientele.

3. I love the "Do you work here?" question
I've always been tempted to reply, "No, this is my court-mandated community service," but I've never had the guts.

Yeah, retail is sooo much fun. :eyes:

9. Just to give you an idea why people ask that question --- half the
time, they DON'T work there. They are jobbers from the soda co. or bread co., or they are milk stockers who work for the milk co., etc. It ain't always obvious who actually works for the store itself.

15. I've made the mistake of wearing similiar things to employees
It is really creepy to be stared at that way, like "Why aren't you helping me?"
That's why I dress frumpily when going clothes shopping and avoid solid colored shirts at discount or hardware stores.

12. I was going to say that!
I've made that mistake more than once, myself. Those in retail - Give us poor dumb ignorant customers a break!

14. I work with them too
It is really bad when they try to kill themselves or me or destroy my stuff. I am drafting a document that people are required to sign before entering my lab to lessen the liklihood of that happening. I'll probably forget something though, which someone will of course do, since my rules don't prohibit it.
