Why do people need to use an ignore list
I mean why can't they use their inborn super power of actually not reading a post by someone they are annoyed with? It is possible to train oneself to develop this power. We all are born with it. Its just some people don't know they have it.

8. Some people post a thread every few seconds
when you go into the lounge, half the threads are theirs, and other good ones get smushed down into page 2. I ignore for that reason more than anything else. Most of these people go away on their own after a while.

15. That's why I do it
When there's ten threads about the pope or something, it's nice to get rid of them so you can see a more diverse cross-section of discussion topics.

Lounge, and 20 of them are from the same person, one that is such a perseverating attention whore that you want to reach through the computer screen and beat them senseless - the Ignore button prevents this tragedy.

BTW - I'm not referring to any specific DUer.

18. Sometimes I'm just grumpy.
And when I see somebody acting irrationally, just being an argumentive dick for the sake of it, or a freeper-in-disguise, I take great glee in putting them on ignore.

19. I've never used the ignore key...I just ignore posts that don't
interest me...It's easy and simple to do...

And here, dear Az, I have the honor of making my 1500th post! Right here on your thread...I have a very shameless thread going, but it's slowing down now, so I thought I'd have a look around for somewhere else to accomplish my silly little goal. And you are it!

Thank you for being here today!

21. That's why I cleared mine off
I realized that I was logging on and off to read what the Ignored folks were saying. Since I actually wasn't ignoring them, I cleared out the list.

22. I have a really well-developed internal kill-filter
I still use the ignore list from time to time however, to eliminate the pathologically irritating sorts who follow one from thread to thread just for the purpose of being disagreeable.

I recall thinking some time ago that such people didn't exist or were rare. My time spent moderating has shown me otherwise. I don't have a lot of names on my list, in fact very few. But those who've made it have shown themselves to be persistently obnoxious and or adversarial. My time here is limited and I prefer to spend it in discussion that is not a waste of time designed to raise everyone's blood pressure. The ignore list is a means to that end in a very few special cases.

24. I used to be an admin in IRC
Specifically a SOP for the Dalnet #atheism channel. Talk about hostile ground. We were one of the larger online debate channels around. We drew frequent attacks from fundamentalists trying to brave the lions den and also attacks from angry atheists that thought we were going too easy on the believers.

I guess as an admin I didn't have the luxury of ignoring posts. Instead I looked at ways to diffuse trouble makers. I rarely had to kick people and very seldom if ever banned anyone.

25. So that's why you're so good at it!
I appreciate the way you reach out and look for common ground. You, Az, are actually someone whose posts I find interesting (you'd be on the anti-ignore button). :)
