3. Well, it's weird.

I don't actually have a final decision yet. I won't until July 1 at the latest. I'm on the waiting list at Cornell University, which is my top choice, however, I needed to secure a spot at another college because the chances of getting off the waiting list are variable. So I put my deposit down at DePaul University, which where I'll go if I don't get in at Cornell.

The people at WSU, UMass and NMSU were really nice, and were genuinely interested in me. I know it's silly, but I feel really bad turning them down. Honestly, I don't feel so bad about NMSU because I know a lot of my friends are going there, but the other two... Guess I'm just a bleeding heart.

Edit: If I get into Cornell, I'll have to tell DePaul I won't be going there after all. If that happens, expect to see this all over again, with more      ing

4. Ouch, that is tough.
I'm a senior, too, and I have problems with the guilt thing too.

Well, good luck, I'm sure you'll make a great decision. Good luck with Cornell--that would be an amazing achievement. :)

7. Truman State University.
Thanks to an amazing scholarship, I'll be paying next to nothing. It's a really good school at an unbeatable price. It tends to be conservative, but hell, I've lived with that for twelve years. They've got College Democrats; I can join that and be happy.

Plus, the career options I'm considering all require a good amount of graduate school, so I'm saving my money for that (and studying abroad).

8. That's cool.
I've got to scrape of some other scholarships in next few years so my parents can eat, too. Right now, everything's a stretch.

I'm the daughter of two teachers (one of whom works three jobs). Everything's tough right now. The financial thing was a big part of my decision--my parents have my brother entering a private high school next year, in addition to me.

10. That's a bummer
My decision probably would have been a lot easier had there been some significant difference in finances. NMSU's Computer Science program is average, so that was a fallback, but DePaul, UMass and WSU all have excellent CS, and the financial aid packages all left parental contributions that were within a thousand dollars of each other. Watch, Cornell will come back with a package that looks similar. That's the laws of irony for you.

11. I had that problem too
When I got into colleges 9 years ago ( wow,has it really been that long?)
Especially since I was an athlete and had long conversations with one of the coaches at another college. It was a DIII school so he wasn't offering me an athletoc scholarship or anything. Still I felt bad when I told the coach that I would not be running for him.

12. Hey, yeah, what do you put in a "non-acceptance" letter?
My "Guilt-o-meter" goes off the chart whenever I say the word "rejection." Plus, my dad left the WSU stuff lying on the couch, so that doesn't help ;) Anyhow, what does one put in a "non-acceptance" letter so as to relieve your own guilt (the university will be fine, they've got plenty of other incoming students)?

13. I wrote those
I don't think everyone does. I just said that I recognized their good qualities but that the college that I accepted offered more of what I wanted. Actually, it had to do with the financial aid packages. I suppose that I could have said that, espcially to the one college that didn't come anywhere near meeting my financial need like they promised in their brochures.
If you do write letters though, be nice. Most colleges know that many applicants will go somewhere else and don't take it personally at all, unless of course, you do something very notable in your college career, then the admissions staff at the other school will be cursing you.
