Where would you go for a week if you could go (practically) anywhere?
It's not so idle a question as most of mine, 'cause I'm kind of running out of daytrips in the southeast but neither am I quite up for that monthlong rail trip out to Banff. But hell, have fun with it. Pick any place in the world if you feel like it. Pretend Trump loaned you his credit cards. Where would it be?

Nineteen kilometers up a VERY MALO ROAD. Or maybe San Cristobal de las Casas in Chiapas. Two of my favorite places on the Earth.

3. The UP, or a ranch in Montana.
Lake Superior is glorious in all seasons, and all it's moods. Montana because I've always wanted to just ride a horse from dawn to dusk, in places where there aren't any other people. Maybe I meant North Dakota.

21. While Montana is beautiful
I would highly recommend the Wind Rivers south of Yellowstone Park in Wyoming. I spent a perfect week their fly fishing hiking and not seeing a soul other then my hiking partners. If you want to get away I would highly advise the Wind Rivers through Pinedale, WY.

If I could go tropical I have always wanted to go to the Cooke Islands.

11. through beautiful new mexco?
day one, just to unwind, a long day and night at the sierra grande lodge & spa in truth or consequences, featuring a mineral bath under the stars & a walk through the old streets to a cheery dinner...
day 2, over thru lincoln county, stay at a cabin up the canyon in ruidoso, walk a little either in town or up the canyon, eat take out in your cabin and go got blasted at a locals bar, fight optional...
day three, up through deserted county dirt roads to santa rosa, and up toward taos by your own route. stop several times just to meet people. stay at the taos guest house. stay away from downtown if you have any desire to stay away from crowds. eat at the nice little cafe over by the hospital.
day four, loop through los alamos and down through the caldera. stay at a funky little place in the canyon south of the caldera. meet the crazy ol' guy who will chip in to buy a twelve pack with you...
day five, go find teirra amerilla, and drive around san miguel county. go find the shrine. check out the weavers. and head up to chama.
please remember, it's all there waiting. enjoy.

15. Thanks! Could happen
Alice and I seem to be working our way through the New places (already went to New York and New Orleans together, as well as a very bad-weather drive through New Jersey) and we both very much want to head for New Mexico.

Best wishes to you in Tikrit!

12. The Turquoise Coast of Turkey....
A few years ago I found a company that took Turkish-made yachts to cruise the southwestern coast, with jaunts inland to see places like Ephesus, the Lycian rock tombs, and other amazing stuff.

Then they headed up to Istanbul (not Constantinople) :-) and you got to spend a few days there as well. I was an art history major, and am fascinated by anything from ancient cultures.

Plus, I could stuff myself silly on Mediterranean food. I could eat tabbouleh, hummus, pitas, baba ganoush etc and NEVER get tired of it.

25. It is indeed beautiful....
it was included in my French trip when I was 16. Got to see Geneva, the Diablerets glacier, and the Chateau de Chillon. Also drove through Montreux, which was GORGEOUS!

No arguments here!

19. Depends on whether I'm alone or not
If I'm alone, I want to go where there is a lot to do.

If I'm with someone, I want to sit and relax and enjoy the person I'm with.

36. I was there 20 years ago.
Right after freshman year in college. I had no responsibilities then.

Venice was mind-blowing, and Rome was incredible. I didn't get a chance to get to Florence then. At the time I thought, Oh, I'll get to Florence soon.

Now it's twenty years later ...
